For backpacking, just get a whole heap of Vespoid Wings and make (IIRC) Vespoid armour, vambraces and I think a tasset.

what do people use as their weapon of choice? I've got some sword I've upgraded from the beginning. it's essentially a melle weapon and good for quick attacks, especially against the faster creatures but it's almost useless against teh big monsters
