Every so often my PSP will not read UMD's. This error can happen at different stages of games. The UMD seems like its reading then all of a sudden theres a "clicking" sound in the drive. There is a rythym to this sound and no more data will be read from the disk. It can happen with old UMD's or even new ones.
Has anyone else had this problem or knows how to rectify it? I am wondering whether when I did a version upgrade that this may have caused it.
I do my best to look after my PSP and it has not been dropped, used by kids, or misteated in anyway.

Sounds like the cogs that spin the umd may be catching.. Id give Sony a ring.. and see what the verdict is from there..

You UMD drive is on it's way out. If you are still under warranty get it fixed. If not start playing ISO's of the MS and save the UMD drive for game bootup.

no, i emailed sony about the umd noise thing and they said it is just the psp locking the disk into place so when you shake or move it dosent interrupt the game

some times mine doesnt read disks the first time i played metal gear acid 2 it would say "the disk can not be read" and same with my gta liberty city stories but gta UMD was broken (i got gta on EBAY) because the plastic on the front was pushed in so the disk couldnt spin but i fixed it

Bummer, had it looked at and told UMD drive is cactus. Going to sell it off for parts and buy a new console. Have too many games to offload it completely.
At least I got mega hours out of my PSP before it was R.I.P! Dont even get me started about Xbox 360's and their faults!!!!
