I know the effect it has on sony loosing money and all but what effect does it have on us.

A fake memory stick, or just a really too cheep one for that matter, only gets hit by disadvantages. It is super high likeliness to turn corrupt and remain unable to play games off it or even save to it.
Play it safe and keep to those major brands like Sony and Sandisk and make sure it has the words MagicGate on it as they are somehow more secure and compatible with the PSP compared to others.

Disadvantages:
Buying one is a gamble it may work fine(like mine 2gb which has been working pefrectly for 1/1/2years now). or it may stop working in a few months.
Speed and Size is not always the same as offered by sony



Advantages:
Very Cheap
Offer similar speeds and size to the real

not to be rude and dis-respectful insectoid.....but i dont its your position to advise when a thread "has served its purpose".

but to get back to the thread....

i also think that copied or fake ms sticks also have another purpose. apart from the obvious copyright infringement, they can also have a positive effect on the monopoly of sony and sandisk.

think of it this way. if other so called cheaper companies are making reliable sticks at a much reduced price then it can only influence the major players in reducing their prices to compete. after all would you pay the high prices when you get a stick at a much reduced price which is just as good?

Some are eay to tell and some are very hard, If you get one from ebay they are most likely fake and also if you buy them from a market some of the ones people sell are fake
