PSP Hardware \ Help appreciated - Sticky controller

crazynites says:

Hi all , was wondering if anyone could help me with my psp. The psp is past warranty so I thought Id give this site a try first before taking it to a shop for repair.

Sometimes when playing a game the controls will get stuck, like when im playing nascar or v8 supercars the car will keep driving to the left like it needs a wheel alignment. Usually a few taps on the right side of the controller will fix it but it can be very annoying and ruin a good race. It also does it when in a menu page & it just keeps going scrolling until I give it a tap on the right side a couple times.

Will it require a costly repair or is it a fairly simple thing to fix do you think ? It has done it for awhile now & ive been putting up with it as it doesnt do it all the time but if it aint gonna cost much to fix I might look into it.

OK , well can anyone recommend a repairer in Melbourne (prefer on the Western side) , Id only pay to fix it if it wasnt gonna cost much as Ive put up with it for a long time & it only happens maybe 10-20% of the time.

Your analog nub appears to be busted up - possible causes are often mistreatment. I have downgraded and got one with me right now of a kid who just didn't look after his PSP and as a result I'm holding most of it together with tape and the nub just keeps ripping over to the left all the time.

If you can't find any dirt inside then the nub needs replacing.

Now that you mention it , I did get one them analog controller packs off ebay that let you change the size & feel of the analog stick, maybe when changing over sticks it has caused some damage or got some dirt in there. Ill pop the analog stick off & see what I can see. Any ideas on how much a new nub costs to replace ?

Is this the nub replacements you are talking about as I already have these. Wouldnt the problem be inside the psp ?

Thanks , I might have a go at taking the face plate off & see what I find. Theres some videos on you tube showing this, so hopefully it aint too hard even for big clumsy fingers.
