PSP Hardware \ Need help - Sound DEAD - Sound Jack problem - How do I open up PSP?

Student1 says:

Hi,

For the past year or so, my PSP has been acting up and the sound only worked in one ear unless i fiddled with the position of the sound jack was (at the time, I also couldn't get sound if no ear plugs/speaker were in). Now, no sound works. And I like to use my PSP to play music and watch videos.

I thought about sending it to the service centre in Whitby (I am from Toronto), but the prices on www.mtcservice.com leads me to believe that it will cost $99+Tax.

I rather try and solve this problem myself than shell out 1/2 the cost of a PSP. I may have to toy with the sound jack connection internally, or buy a new sound jack all together. Can post more on hardware if I can figure out how to open it.

Help is appreciated. I've attached some pictures to help.

Picture 1 - Picture of sound jack, fine (no sound)

Picture 2 - Picture of sound jack loose (no sound)

hmmmmm.... from picture 2 it looks like theres a possibility that it couldve been seperated from the rest of the PSP and is rattling about inside the casing, But im not an expert.

i agree with lewace11 because i just compared it with my psp and it looks like the your port has been pushed back on one side which might be the reason it is a bit defective

The headphone jack is on a small board with WiFi module and memory card reader. You can get them from eBay but you have to get one to match the version of motherboard you have or else you get other problems with WiFi.

You can swap the module out without soldering. Before putting the new module in write down the MAC address printed on the WiFi module.

Once it is all back together use a homebrew MAC address changer to change the MAC address stored in IDStorage to match the address on the new WiFi Module.

eBay item number 230153396612 is a WiFi module with pictures.

If you find out your motherboard version I should be able to help you with a matching WiFi Module.

How do I determine which Motherboard I have?
"It is compatible with TA079 or TA081 Board, but TA082 need another Board, which is in my store."

Now another question, what is the best way to get to the sound board? Do I have to remove the front, remove the LCD screen and then start unscrewing?

THANKS
