It seems like a great little unit but from the little reading I've done it looks like Sony holds it back a lot with their DRM and not allowing users to do homebrew? I'd love to use it as a multi purpose device when I can't use my laptop. I won't be using it for gaming or watching the UMD discs so will it still be worth it?

Here are my questions assuming I haven't done any homebrew on it:

Will I be able to use it if I'm walking/jogging? Or will this damage the unit if I'm listening to an mp3.

Can I read eBooks on it? Does it support pdf, .doc etc? I haven't seen any ebook readers worth buying. Sony released one last year but it's like $700

How's the screen quality?

Does it take long to boot up?

Is there a strong community for it online? Like a forum or a FAQ?

What formats does it support?

It there a lot of hardware accessories out there like a protective kit or a strap

How's the screen quality? Excellent, the resolution is 480 X 272

Does it take long to boot up? For the console to boot up to the menu it doesnt take long and i usually just put my PSP on sleep.

The PSP uses its own operating system, these are called FirmWare, or FW for short, this can be officially updated from Sony every few months or so, you can do alot more with custom firmware. You can however get portals for your PSP which are webpages stored on your memory stick, some are designed to look like windows.

How much will it cost when it's released here? by "here" i presume you mean australia, I'm from Britain so I dont know, check the news thread on the front page.

The more I find out about the capabilities of the unit the more I like it.

The online community here is amazing, really, incredibly helpful. No worries there.

The PSP comes with me to work everyday, I use it as a memory stick when needed.

If it were stolen, lost I am 85% sure that I would replace it.

I connects to my ps2 and I transfer soccer files to it.

It is a top little unit

There is no homebrew for the new PSP.....at least, not yet anyways.

and, I don't know that a psp is really worth it if you aren't going to game on it.

How's the screen quality? Its good. You gotta watch out for them dead/stuck pixels but.

Does it take long to boot up? About 4 seconds to boot fully. About 3 if you turn off SCE startup.

Is there a strong community for it online? Like a forum or a FAQ? Lots of FAQ's round. Sony has an official forum and support.. But this site is pretty good

What formats does it support? Normal formats: MP3, WMA.. Probaly more.. Video: MP4, MPEG2. If you get homebrew you can basically have any video and audio format you want..

On the old one, Every version is homebrewable. Homebrew you can do.. Woah.. Almost everything you can think of. Downloading managers, Alarm clocks.. Lots of stuff..
