PSP Software \ Piracy Ruining PSP!!

I just read this on pspfanboy..

230,000 downloads of mgs:po alone - and thats just THIS torent site.

I can't believe just how much of a toll the piracy of psp games has taking on psp game sales. Its this kind of statistic that puts developers off releasing on this fantastic console.

I stick with OFW, call me old fashioned, but i don't even download music without purchasing it legitimately. All my albums i own, or in the mail. All six of my psp games are genuine, despite the $48 patapon, and $90 silent hill etc.. Its not that hard to buy games.

To think the homebrew scene, which i dont frown too much upon outside of piracy, it has alot of use (eg, the psp for the blind thingy) and the extra functions (- motion 'sixaxis'). But game piracy IS ruining the psp, and making people like me fork out alot for the games we buy.

The ONLY good thing about this method of psp gaming, is the preservation of the environment

, less discs to dispose of.

Gaming companies could use this though, (like NIN) and sell alot more via the PSN store, for cheap.. DRMing the games would be handy..

PSP games are such an easy target for pirates because in comparison to other formats, they are such small files. I'd say most people would download it for their PSP, then if they liked it, go buy it on PS3, 360 or PC, as the gaming experience is obviously so much better.

By buying the GOOD games, only the GOOD developers get my hard-earned money, and I have more money left over for the GOOD games.

I think that they should release games like the PSN store ect. but this can pose problem like:
1) people with slow downloads or dialup can not get games
2) The server being over populated
3) Corrupt downloads

but it could pose improvements like:
1) Games will cost less because there is no physical material
2) Environmentally friendly
3) You do not have to wait for games to be released in your country

i think 3 is a huge point when it comes to piracy. If an english game is released is the US and in Aus. 5 months later, people in Aus will download it. one example is the newly released God of War.

They already have the english version so why can they not sell it here on the same date?

Take the nine inch nails release this week:
Ghosts, was released on monday for $5 download, that is 36 songs, 2 cds, high quality drm free mp3s. Next month it will be released for $10 in stores in a tangable cd pack.
There is a free 9track download available (such as a demo for psp) that anyone can try out.
On top of this, fans got their $75 and $300 collector deluxe packages.

If gaming companies followed something like this model, a demo to try, a physical version of the game and a slightly cheaper version of the game for download, and then collectors edition on top, everyone would be much happier, and those who "try" the games could, without ripping off anyone. And then more games could be released, and they would be much friendlier on the pocket.
Net releases could stop the barrier between regions getting the game, and having it available to the world instantly. And im sure if this sort of thing became common territory, SCEE would pick up their act with PSN updates for us PAL peeps.
Those with slow connections to the net could simply buy the games, as they wouldn't have any more choice than they do now (torrents etc, require a fair internet connection, or a heck of alot of patience!)

When I want a CD and it's ONLY available online, I usually make a CD cover myself for it.

Distribution BlowJ!! Like in music, they need different companies (Music = Labels) to distribute the product over different continents/countries, and also market the product. It all takes time, i think most the time they just leave it til last minute as they're not sure when the game will be ready for release. Then Australia gets left out cause we give them crap all sales.

360, Ps3 and Wii titles are not being pirated because they have better protection... PSP and PC games are being pirated at ridiculous levels and as a result developers are moving away from these platforms... It's Sony's stuff up that they released a handheld console which at the beginning had absolutely no security and it may very well be the death of this product as a gaming machine beyond half assed ports...
