Monster Hunter Freedom - 5/10

This is by far the greatest game to grace the LCD screen of the PSP, with a wide variety of weapons, armour, monsters and quests available to you, hardly any game to date has greater replay value.

+Excellent graphics with great detail and texture, though anti-aliasing is not too great, but it's a small price to pay for such an excellent game. The details of weapons and armour is second to none, as well as the graphics of the monsters and wyverns, are well made.

+Sound options include stereo and Dolby PLII, and though I haven't tried PLII, the stereo option is excellent. With earphones, you can be well aware of positions of the annoying preys and melynxs are around you, I can imagine PLII further defining the depth of sound.

+With such a HUGE array of weapons and armour available to you, you will not be bored at all as you go through quests building and using various weapons to suit you and finding out the best weapons for different monsters. While doing so, you're hoping to land the rare items for that weapon you've been eyeing on, or finding that weak spot on that previously undefeatable wyvern. The element of customising weapons to this degree reminds me of Vagrant Story on PS1, which had one of the most complex weapons customisation I've ever seen.

+The beauty of this game is replayability, once you're hooked it's almost impossible to want to remove MHF from your PSP. If you have Xlink for online play, you will never want to put your PSP down, ever.

-No game is perfect, of course. The two main things I found annoying were the camera angles when you're in the corner. Getting rammed into a wall by a Rathalos while surrounded by 5 Genpreys while you're using a Great Sword will get your blood boiling when you're trying to see what's going on! The other thing I found annoying was the controls, rolling to be exact. It's hard to judge where you're rolling sometimes, especially in the heat of fighting a crazy Yut Kut Ku!

*A hint about the pig, if you can cook well-done meat every single time, the pig is as good as yours.

This game receives a 4.5/5.
