Featured Reviews \ Sound Grip - Logic3

Overview
Logic3's Sound Grip is a good all-round alternative to the larger PSP sound systems. It addresses two key problems on the PSP, ergonomics and volume. As the name suggest, the Logic3 Sound Grip is a speaker set, grip all in one.
The Sound Grip
The Sound Grip contains:

  • Sound Grip
  • Carry Case
  • Cradle
  • 2 X AAA Batteries (Yes, batteries are included!)

Sound Grip Details
The Sound Grip's slick black and silver colours blend in well with the classic PSP colour scheme. The unit has a clear plastic hinge that holds the PSP firmly in place while the silver cradle allows the Sound Grip to be placed on a stand. The stand provides comfortable viewing angles while watching movies in contrast to the traditional method of holding the PSP for 2 hours. I think it would have been much nicer if the cradle was foldable, which would allow it to be carried in the protective carry case that is bundled with the Sound Grip.

The Sound Grip can be controlled by a volume dial, on/off switch and it also contains a DC-in and a headphone jack. It definitely provides enough controls for its purpose. A blue LED will light up when it is powered on, which makes it a little distracting when watching a movie, but you will get used to it after a while. The UMD door is accessible at all times, which means you can change movies or play games without taking the Sound Grip off.

The sound quality of this unit is decent, although not as powerful as the larger brother, Logic3's Sound System, it does however provide sufficient volume to comfortably enjoy a movie. The sound is clear, gun shots and car crashes are crisp and audible. The deep bass is missing, due to the fact that isn't a built in bass woofer. If it is better sound you are after, check out Logic3's bigger brother Sound System, or Logitech's Playgear Amp.

Conclusion
In conclusion, it is comfortable to hold while watching movies and playing games. The sound is sufficiently loud and crisp, although there is a lack of bass amplification. The Logic3 Sound System is a very good choice if you are looking for an inexpensive PSP sound system.

Pros:
  • Portable
  • Good ergonomic grip
  • Battery powered (2 AAAs included)
  • AC Powered by the default PSP charger

Cons:
  • Cradle does not fit in the case
  • lack of strong bass
