Firstly, I have tried charging with a friends Australian PSP charger and still no action. As far as I know, the only difference between AU models and the rest of the world is the cord that goes from the wall into the sqaure converter.
Secondly, I have have 5 in 1 converters for any socket in the world. I have used them in many countries to charge my phone, shaver, iPod etc so charging is other countries is not a problem.
