Well its true fans. Counter Strike Combined Assault version 0.6 was released by the almighty Stealth Kill just a week ago. The game is still running on the Quake 1 engine and, if you have ever played the previous versions of it you can see how much hard effort he has put into this massive update.

I'm a small time Counter Strike Source player myself and I must add that even though this obviously doesn't match up to the graphics of the worlds most played first person shooter, for everyone lucky enough to have a 1.5 or custom firmware PSP it's the next best thing.

After a handful of rounds it had me hooked. The classic game play is all there in refined list of maps since the last version because Stealth Kill appears to have removed all the original Quake maps from the game. The maps range from the typical attempts to recreate terrorist situations through to just open rooms with guns that make you want to scream BOOM HEADSHOT. CS_Italy is clearly the most detailed map from the small 4 of them. The framerate can suffer from time to time though and slightly hinders playability on the large environments. Guns are much better looking and have now all almost been fully skinned. The bots are also of a greater intelligence compared to the last versions and more life like sounds and textures have been incorporated into the game to give it that added indescribable feel.

Sadly a few bugs remain in it. The occasional crash is not a rare sight but can be expected with just about any homebrew application for the first few versions. This was the most common problem I came across in game. Also the controls have this funny habit of being set wrong and not staying way you like them after some time of playing if it hasn't crashed on you already. One other downside a lot of people are facing is also that the infrastructure mode has been removed in this version and we all hope it returns in the next. On a positive note I know that this is much more stable then the last version I tried earlier in the year.

Put all those bugs aside and focus solely on the game and playing it and I can assure you this wont let you down.
