News \ Sony outranks Nintendo in innovative survey

Apple has had to settle for second best and Nintendo a shocking seventh (that’s right, seventh. Get out the pitchforks!) after an Incite survey (via BrandRepublic.com) asked 500 people aged between 18 and 65 to name the brands they consider to be the most innovative.

In a generation where Nintendo seemed to ooze innovation, they’ve placed lower then their main competitors in Sony and Microsoft, who placed first and third respectively.

According to the report, 74% of people like brands that are “moving forward”, yet 60% didn’t like brands that were created for the sake of it. Make of that what you will.

The top 20 brands the survey considered to be innovative are:

I think some people they asked must have confused innovation with advancement...Microsoft and Sony have both made technological advancements with their products, but have done relatively little that would be considered "new" or "innovative". Whereas Nintendo is using pretty basic technology, but doing very innovative things with it. You decide which is better.

I think Sony bought Ericsson and then de-merged it into another corporation, BRanding itself as Sony-Ericsson.

Either that or Sony Bought Ericsson and are branding it as Son-Ericsson, but keeping the same company...

Microsoft got third. And if innovative means 'copy everyone elses ideas and sell them with your badge on it', then they probably deserved 1st.

Point is: Innovation loses all meaning when used in the same sentence as microsoft.


You can't really label a whole COMPANY as innovative...only select things.
