PSP Hardware \ Joystick issue

Hey-
I have had my PSP 2000 slim for about a year or so now, been playing it a lot, and recently the joystick stopped working. Even though im not pushing it in a certain direction, it moves. (gay when playing Monster Hunter using bow >.< )

But anyway- I took the badboy apart and took out the joystick... but to my surprise, my character kept moving, even though the joystick was taken out.

I was thinking of buying a new joystick and putting it in myself... but considering the character moved without a joystick being attached, does that mean that it is a problem with the inner connection? not sure if buying a new joystick and waiting for it to come is a waste of time if it wont help anyway.

Anybody got any advice/solution?

Recalibrating it works.. The PSP is programmed to calibrate the stick within the system information screen on fimwares 2.xx + .. It actually fixed my psp 1000 a while back.
