According to GamesIndustry.biz, SCE UK managing director Ray Maguire told an invited audience of press, teachers and education specialists at the national launch of Sony's PSP in Education initiative that the current PSP is just the "first iteration", and that a "smaller, lighter" system will be introduced in the future.

Maguire also said that any redesigns would not affect the PSP's screen, which is apparently "fixed." Judging by Sony's track record of cutting the size and cost of their redesigned consoles since the PSOne was first introduced, a redesigned PSP could also presumably carry a lower price tag.

Following Maguire's statement, a Sony spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz that apart from firmware updates, no "immediate changes" are currently planned for the PSP. "In the longest term, of course we are always looking at ways to continue our platform development," said the spokesperson, "and this normal business practice is what Ray was referring to."

im not sure about making the psp smaller. it seems to be the right size now, atleast for adults. Extending the screen to the whole height of the psp would be cool. lighter will be ok. if they beef up the processor and the gfx that would make it worth buying. oh and also improve the firmware to have more video type options and a better interface for mp3's etc.

At my work we sell PSP's. People still buy them. they may just need to start marketing it again. i cant say ive ever seen a PSP ad. i didnt even know how good they were until i saw a mate playing one. if people saw the capabilities of them sont would do a lot more business.

Upgrading the firmware and making it a complete multimedia unit with a better interface and maybe some software for the less technical minded people (or young kids) that dont want to usb into it and mess with files.

There is heaps of potential there i think with out even upgrading the hardware.

also, chances are they aren't gonna design a slimline psp. the psp seems the perfect size to me. i would keep the same screen size so then, if you were to design a slim psp, how would you make it smaller, keeping the same screen size?!?

have you guys ever held like an xbox controller then started playing the psp and say "OMG THE PSP IS SOOOO SMALL!!!" ?

i personally have and sometimes, i feel that the psp is tooo fat

and when i have no where to put my psp case, i hold it behind the psp with it and then when i put the case down, it has the same effect as going from xbox controller to psp !
