PSP Hardware \ CONFIRMED - New PSP stock = Higher version

repopulating says:

Remember a while ago there was a rumour where i said new PSP stock not downgradable? Well heres a piece to that puzzle. My mate yesterday bought a PSP from JBHIFI which happened to come stocked with firmware 3.11 and a colour manual (not just black & white). And on the other hand, my mate today bought a PSP which had the same stuff.

So SONY have really stepped up a notch with there security.. And i assume they will continue to do so.

Vinzor says:

mhmmmm... that is true. i went to jb/k mart/EB...they all had it...

you know how the psp came out with a value pack and base?

well, the value pack no longer exists and the base pack....well...it's the new ones

you will notice the letter on the box as well...under the voltage... it is like... P or something. its firmware = 3.11, the motherboard has gold lettering on both sides.

sony is starting to get tough...but we will win the war!

Or maybe have a comp to find a good app and then mass produce it? Is anyone listening... hello Sony?

Is it complicated to hardware downgrade?

even better, could you tell us how to do it and give us the stuff to do it?

22 Jun 2007 - 20:28 [[Currently @ MyPS3! - Occationally checking MyPSP]] Brisvegas, Queensland

hmmnodice says:

@repop:Yes alot harder, ratrher than just downloading something putting it on the psp, and running it involves take the psp apart and reprogrammign the nand chip at hardware level. You have to have special tools as well.

repopulating says:

Uhh.. sounds hard. I think id stick with a new MOBO if worst comes to worst

hmmnodice says:

well if you comfortable installing a new mobo then you proably have the skills you just need the tools

Yes very complicated.

If you can change a graphics card in a PC you can change a Mobo on a PSP. Changing a Mobo would be about a 1 or 2 on the difficulty level. Hardware downgrading a PSP is about a 9 or a 10.

You only need a Phillips head screwdriver to change a mobo.

You need a Stereo Microscope and Micro soldering equipment to do a Hardware downgrade also NAND Programmer or a pre programmed 32M flash.

Easy if you have the equipment and the experience.

O.K.

1) A working PSP with 1.5 f/w
2) A compatible 32Meg NAND flash

Step 1. Interface the 32Meg nand chip to the working PSP with a switch to switch between CE lines on the onboard PSP nand and the new nand.

Step 2. Boot the PSP with CE line selected to onboard. Run homebrew software to reprogram NAND chips in PSP's. Before it start flick the CE line switch to the external NAND.

Step 3. Reboot the PSP. It should boot up on the new programmed NAND.

Step 4. Repeat step 1 with the 3.10 F/W PSP.

Step 5. Boot PSP with CE switch selected to external NAND.

Step 6. Run homebrew program to back up flash to MS. Switch CE to onboard NAND before it starts. You now have a saved 3.10 flash with the IDStorage keys needed to run this PSP correctly.

Step 7. Run homebrew software to reprogram NAND as in step 2. This time program the onboard NAND.

Step 8. Reboot with CE selected to onboard. You should now have a 1.5 PSP with bad IDStorage. Run homebrew NAND reprogrammer and program only the IDStorage you backed up in step 6.

You now have a good 1.5 PSP with correct IDStorage keys.

Easy..

Yes the files have been around for a while now. 6 to 12 months....

Memory cards have been left in returned PSP's multiple times now.

The magic is in the Jigkick (magic battery) and until the community gets there hands on it nothing more is going to happen with it.

mayb sony doesnt want to pay the money, because at the moment thier current stuff dont bring in any extra money
I believe same would happen would custom firmware unless more people bought psp's but still makes it hard for people to understand even with a psp
If I were one of these people I would be careful cause if Sony offered a job i would be very cautious when it comes to personal details as custom firmware is illegal.

hmmnodice says:

@repop:what made yoou try it over OE?

A firneds getting a psp, through one of those flybuy points reward system knda things so im wondering what firmware it would be ,anybody else had one of these things, my guess it would be 3 or below, i thought that they would have lots of these sitting around because they wouldnt be sending them off every day?whgat do you guys think

23 Jun 2007 - 12:23 a

insectoid says:

if it's from a flybys rewards thingy, it's probably not that high firmware, cause they'd just buy a certain amount then give em' out when needed.

23 Jun 2007 - 13:16 Wouldn't you like to know...

yeah thats what i was thinking

It's too true. One of my brother friends bought a white PSP last Friday (not the one that we just had but I mean a week ago) and it came with firmware 3.11 loaded onto it. Shame.
