Full review – I’ve had this game for awhile now and have loved it ever since I got it. Although I’m more of a Street Fighter EX and Street Fighter III fan, this game is successful in that it is pretty much the arcade/console version of Street Fighter Alpha III on the go; with a few new characters and game modes for the PSP version.

Sound: Not much needs to be said about sound, as it is the same quality as the console versions. Decent soundtrack and sound effects pack a punch.

Graphics: As always, 2D Street Fighter games boast very good cartoonish style graphics. Although I’m more of a 3D fighter fan (i.e. Street Fighter EX), the graphics are exactly the same as the console versions of the game. No graphical glitches at all and movement is smooth.

Load times: None

Gameplay: a lot of different game modes in the handheld version; Single Player arcade, Multiplayer (via WiFi/ad-hoc) – 1 on 1, 1 on 2, 2 on 1 and 2 on 2 matches – time attack, survival and more. There’s also the added mode where you can play 2 on 1 against the bosses (i.e. M. Bison) which are great. The stages in the game are similar to previous versions of the game in the series with added details. The ability to choose the game speed is handy for different player skills – i.e. you wouldn’t really want to play it on Turbo II if you’re a n00b. The game does take a bit of getting used to as the PSP’s D-pad is quite useless (unless you’ve got one of the D-Pad attachments for fighting games) so using the analogue nub is the better alternative. You get to choose your skill type (i.e. normal super, simple super and hyper mode where you can go skitzo with your own combos.) One thing I wish the game would have had was ‘parrying’, which you find in the Street Fighter III series, allowing you to deflect attacks and counter-attack with huge moves. Nonetheless the game is solid and with a high level of replay value.

I give the game a 4 out of 5 rating.
