Smackdown vs RAW 2007 - 9/10

GRAPHICS:

SVR 07 provided excellent graphics every time. The wrestlers look amazing and move more smoothly and realistically. The graphics on this game were impressive in every area, except the crowd. The crowd graphics were awful, they looked like paper and they were only seen in the first 5 rows or the crowd. It was very disappointing but luckily it was the only large area of the game that needed improvement. Another thing I found pleasing was the fact that there were interesting loading screens of you’re your favourite male wrestlers from Smackdown and RAW. You were able to unlock diva loading screens once you had gained a trophy through season mode. The screens were not as ‘amusing’ as I had hoped but they were still an added bonus whilst having to wait for the game to load. The lip syncing for the wrestlers was pretty impressive especially for the challenge of created characters. Overall the graphics were very impressive with excluding the abysmal crowd. I was pretty pleased.

SOUND:

The sound given was smooth and realistic and was generally pleasing. It provided good sound for all of the wrestlers talking and the lip syncing was very pleasing. The crowd sound was pretty realistic and made me feel as though I was really there. The crowd responded to everything I did, for example if I was a clean player and I performed a dirty move the crowd by boo at me, were as if I did a high powered move or my finishing move the crowd would cheers for me. The sound made by the weapons and surroundings was quite impressive to. The sound of a head being smashed into a steels cage sounded very realistic. The sound produced when a move is performed is very realistic. For example when I performed and high power move the ring would jigger and produce and realistic sound as my opponent hit the floor. The entrance and victory music was right on touch and it was extremely enjoyable to listen to. Overall the sound was excellent.

GAMEPLAY:

The gameplay was marvellous; it provided numerous different match types, Season mode, PPV mode and General Manager mode. These features were all superb. There was a match type to please everyone. All the matches were interesting and enjoyable. I particularly think that the Money in the Bank match type was one of the best. Season mode was particularly enjoyable if you used a created character. This was because your new wrestler starts out pretty pathetic, but with experience can become one of the best. The season mode is long and has many different choices that you have to make along the way that effect you’re the way you career goes. You also have a locker room; this is where you end up each week after a match. When you want to modify your character you first must have enough experience points that are gained by winning or loosing matches, however winning matches gives more experience. You player’s stats will have certain limitations based on their weight class. For example a superheveaywieght will not be allowed to have 10/10 for speed where as a cruiserweight will not be allowed to have 10/10 for their strength. The controls were excellent I thought because the new grappling system was so easy to get used to and the other controls were as well. The controls are moderately easy on you hands but at points such as escaping a cage were you had to repeatedly press any buttons my fingers got a little cramped. The new interactive move system allowed me to control my player as he performed a move, such as punching on the turnbuckle. You moved the analog stick to control what the character was doing. Also you were able to do move were you had picked the other player up and were ready to slam but you had the option of walking around for you desired position to lay the ‘smackdown' on you opponent. The PPV mode was enjoyable because you were able to create your own PPV’s and either compete in them or watch them. General Manager Mode was really outstanding. You controlled wrestlers with happiness and injury so you had to be careful were you put your wrestlers each week in the next PPV. You were directly competing with the other brand for ratings and fans which all decided who was to be the best General Manager at the end of the year. At the end of each week your latest PPV would be rated. Creating a character was really complicated but in a good way, there were so many options so it took a long time to create your specialised character. However the end product was stunning. Overall the gameplay was exceptional.

DIFFICULTY:

The game in my opinion was fairly difficult with challenges that were at first hard for the beginning player, but after about 1 week I was able to beat the best in the business (only on easy though). There were different difficulty ratings as well, ranging from easy to realistic. This game provides fun for the not so talented gamers and the profoundly talented gamers. The different characters were all given an overall wrestling rating I think that they were pretty accurate. This game is difficult when it needs to be such as in handicap matches against Kane and Big Show which were even moderately difficult on easy. Overall this game is good for players of all talents and provides a good and enjoyable experience.

VALUE:

This game was good value for money as it provided not only a moderately long season mode but also a general manager mode which took time as well. The other numerus matches and road to Wrestlemania type games were good value also. This game will last you as long as you want It you may have completed the season modes and general manager modes but there is always that match to be player whenever you feel like it. Overall this game is great value for money and a definite buy.
