Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Reviews \ Detail

Tekken For All - 9/10

*NOTE*I've noticed the new trend of adding pictures to reviews, I mean I guess its helpful to visually see it but I think it makes the reviews sort of cluttered. Oh well, one man's opnion... Anyways, TEKKEN!

Publisher: Bandai Namco Games
Developer: Bandai Namco Games
Wireless Multiplayer: Yes
Game Sharing: Yes
Wireless LAN: Yes
Requires Memory Stick: Yes (224k Minimum)

Let me start off by saying that I am not the biggest fan of fighting games. Frankly I find them very repetitive. Let me also add that this is the first Tekken game I have ever owned, and aside from the arcade version of Tekken 3, this is the only Tekken game I have played. However, a few months back I fell in love with a little game called Soul Caliber 2. This new found love for fighters lead me to seek out a fighting game for my PSP. After browsing though a vast quantity (sarcasm) of fighters, I settled upon Tekken.

GRAPHICS 10/10

To be honest, I would give this game 20/10 if I could. The graphics in this game are phenomenal, truly amazing. As soon as you boot up the game, you are greeted by the opening movie which looks flawless. I never thought the PSP could play a game that looks this good, but I thought wrong, even though there are slight flaws that don't get in the way at all. The visual problems occur in the game's backgrounds, which occasionally have textures that will blur, and in the pre and postfight animations, which are not quite as smooth as the fighting, have the same problem. Those things aside, and again, they don't get in the way at all, the games graphics are flawless. On top of that, the game has very short load times, around eight to ten seconds, so the visual quality doesn't come at the expense of speed. In fact the whole reason that I found myself playing the game over and over was to unlock the end movies, all of which are quiet pleasing. Of course you could simply buy the movies from the in-game theater, once you earn enough money from the fights of course, if you don't want to play through the game, you lazy bastard.

Gameplay 9/10

The controls are very responsive, though they are occasionally extremely tricky. Some of the combos require a master's degree in quantum physics in order to pull of. However, the basic kick, punch, block, and grab are quiet easy to get the hang of and you will probably be using these for the majority of the game.

Characters 9/10

Going along with the popular theme of jam packing video game fighters with oodles of characters, Tekken does not fall short in this category, if anything it goes to far by having to many characters. All though both of the new characters seem as interesting as the rest of the fighters you find yourself noticing that they all pretty much do the same thing: kick some serious ass. Also Dark Resurrection starts with the complete cast of characters available, 34 in all, so you won't have to play through the arcade mode over and over to get all of them.

Sound 7/10

The only part of the game that I was actually disappointed in. the random screams and yells of the fighters can get to the point that you find the game unbearable to play. Well not that bad, but pretty bad just the same. However there is a great soundtrack to the game and you can access your favorite song from the in-game jukebox, where Kuma the polar bear... dances... to the... song...
Well, moving on, the Sound is good but it defiantly had room for improvement.

Difficulty 9/10

The game is very balanced. With the help of the tutorial, you should be on your way to a nose breaking good time. Great for short bus rides and lonely nights where you have nothing to do, Dark Resurrection is great for experienced and novice players alike.

Value 9/10

Although the price is quiet high, it is well worth it. I counted around 20 different stages in the story mode and beating the piss out of your buddies is always a good time. The amount of extras, such as Tekken Dojo and a multitude of mini games (Tekken bowl FTW!) you will find yourself with loads of entertainment and countless hours of gameplay time.

Overview
(AKA, skip to this part if you can't be bothered READING every now and then)

Pros:
• Excellent graphics
• Great gameplay/player controls
• Good tunes
• Customizable characters

Cons:
• Annoying grunts
• May cause carpal tunnel syndrome

Value - 9/10

62/70 0r 89%, which equals 9/10

In Closing: Tekken: Dark Resurrection is a long-lasting game that delivers superb 3D fighting for the PSP platform. The graphics more than make up for the games minor, minor flaws. This is an extremely good game and that is why I recommend it to everyone.

*NOTE* NBO, if you are still active on the site and are mad that I used you quote, I'll take it off.
