Lumines - 5/10
After trying to decide between buying Metal Gear Acid or Lumines, I settled for the puzzler type game. I knew that it couldn't just be "Tetris". It had to have a twist to make it better and well worth the $70 odd dollars I paid for it.
Firstly, the game presents itself quite well. The effects are bright and coloured while the constant animation gives the game and added depth of life. Although, it can get a little bit distracting at times, but that just adds to the challenge Lumines has to offer.
Each playing field has a different soundtrack to accompany it and with a lot of fields to unlock, there is definately room for constant playability. This game is well suited to both the short burst of gameplay or the long train ride to uni.
I'm not going to go in depth about the game mechanics themselves as that's already described well enough above.
Multiplayer I haven't tried as of yet, but from what I've read and experienced playing the VS CPU mode, it's inventive and definately entertaining.
But with everything aside, the one thing that impresses me most, is they way actions you make in the game will give out different sound effects that fit in seamlessly with the background music. So, if you're getting large combos, the music tends to swell and pick up the pace to match.
10/10 for this game. Mostly because since I bought it, my housemate has spent more time with the PSP than I have. It's even convincing him to go get his own.
