No thats what they say.
The underlying message is for you to setup a regular learning habit that can be utilised for your whole life.
Eg, I choose to read books and research other items to increase my knowledge. This need not be related to work. Mix it up to balance yourself out - learn some thing different: music, arts, take up a sport. As long as you are constantly challenging yourself.
With school, they get you to work on your studies during the holidays, just so that you can ease yourself into the school year. It's ridiculous for them to expect you to cover all the material. Its just something you need to learn for life. Like when you are given a task at work. You could either choose to research about it before you come up with a solution or alternatively you could go headlong into it. Obviously you know which is the better choice.
