Social \ Getting a PS3 but...

I'm doing my research on PS3's and so far have decided to get the PAL 60GB model (CECHCxx) because it has:

* Extra 2 USB ports
* Flash card reader
* SACD support
* Limited PS2 backward compatibility

I would get the NTSC 60GB model because it has 100% BC due to it's Emotion Engine but it would only be compatible with NTSC region games.

I know that these models aren't in development but I'm sure I'll find one.

Questions I want answered are:

* Where can I still buy a PAL 60GB PS3?
* How far away is homebrew being a reality?
* I was thinking of getting a monitor like the BenQ E2400HD how would I use my speakers? (Logitec x540)

I just have a normal 40gb PS3, never had a PS2 so i don't have any games i'd bother with. You're buying a PS3 anyway, if you're going to spend the extra money you might as well use the better games?

I don't use it for anything other than games so the extra memory is pointless for me. It sits in front of a tv, 10 metres away from my computer, so i just do the extra things on the comp.

If you are intending on using it for other things, maybe it is worth it, otherwise i would suggest it isn't really worth spending extra money on these trivial additions - the performance is still the same.

CBF Reading above but:
Q1: Not in production. Cost too much up to the $1000 mark to buy one second hand now. I don't recommend buying one unless you got money to blow.
Q2: Not possible. Hopefully never will be. Will ruin the PS3 and devs will eventually fade out production of games. But even when a modchip does come out if it does, it would be very expensive and potentially harmful to the PS3 if done incorrectly **NOTE** It would never be possible to softmod as there is no mem stick capability.. i may be wrong though..
Q3: I am using that monitor right now as i type. I have my PS3 connected to it and my computer.. That monitors built in speakers are SHIITTE! but the visual quality is so amazing for the price.

I have logitech speakers but not sure if the same ones as you. Mine have 3 cords with coloured tips green, orange and black. I have a little device where i connect my PS3's white and red component cables in one side of the device and the 3 coloured cords in the other side. This works 100% surround sound but it may vary on our speakers.

as for the yellow compotent cable i dnt plug it in anywhere as i use a HDMI cord to connect the PS3 to the monitor.

dax is working on it atm and some randie russian group have managed to dump the firmware but thats bout it. hb'll come soon.

I have a massive collection of PS2 games and my and I have a feeling my PS2 is going to have a headache soon and I'm not willing to buy a new PS2.

Thats why I wanted to 60GB PAL as I'm not going to reimport NTSC games.

The PAL 60GB model BC is run by software emulation so it's not 100% BC while the NTSC is 100%.

I'm thinking of using a BenQ E2400HD which is a 1080p now all I need is a HDMI cable.

Don't want anything over 1m.

But it isn't worth xxx more than non gold plated.

When it's connected as if you can notice it's gold lol.
