adsl2+ is lightening fast if u want fast go that i would have it but it aint available in my area

I m getting the same one soon

up to 24Mbps means the speed of the connection will depend on how far ur house is from the local adsl exchange so the closer = the faster the speed

the cable speed is slower than the maximunADSL 2+ speed

If u post a thread on whirlpool, u'll probably get a better idea on the services of these plans

ADSL2+ ftw.. i'm on TPG ADSL 256/128 atm but received an email from TPG in regards to a free migration to TPG ADSL2+.. which i obviously accepted.. and i'm being transferred to ADSL2+ on the 18th, and will take approx 1-5 working days to complete.. speeds of up to (theortecially) 24000/1000kbps (equivalent to 3MB/sec download:125KB/sec upload).. it depends on how far you are away from your local telephone exchange.. the further away you are from the DSLAM means your speed is slightly decreased. i live pretty close to mine so my speed will pretty be up to par. i'm only going on ADSL2+ Medium but for $49.95/month and 18GB download limit (capped at 128k/128k), i'm not complaining... BRING ON THE SPEED!

dude, 8Mbps does not equal to 8MBs per second.. there is a difference between BITS and BYTES... there are 8 BITS in 1 BYTE.. thus, if you divide 8000 by 8... that equals 1MB per second, not 8MB. downloading a song (for example a standard 4MB song) will take you 4 seconds to download on cable.. which is still quite fast.. but yeah.. ADSL2+ is faster than the cable plan you stated.

EDIT: oh i just read that you can't get Adsl2+ in your area which is a shame, i would have definitely recommended getting that.. but still, i'm sure you will be able to cope with cable speeds, however i'm not sure about the 10GB limit.

i do fine on a 2gb limit and i downloaded 600 hundred songs last month and still had some left over

that's impossible.. 600*4MB (4MB is the standard 128kbps mp3 file) = 2400MB = 2.4GB.. not to mention that everything you do on the internet requires uploading and downloading (i.e. surfing web pages, email etc)

is was a compressed zip file it was the best 600 songs by rolling stones magazine so there lol and the quality wsa bit low the download was 1.8 gb

then technically you didn't download 600 songs, you downloaded 1 zip file which contained 600 audio tracks

and when people download songs, i would automatically assume that they wouldn't go for anything lower than 128kbps (even 128kbps is crap quality to me)

i guess so, but i still think there's a bit of mixed feelings towards the issue so i guess i'll finish it...

cable has no limit as to how fast it can download no matter how far away you are from your cable provider... however with ADSL2+ on the other hand, the further u are away from your local telephone exchange, the slower your download/upload rate is. however, considering that you really wouldn't be too far from your local telephone exchange, your download rates should still be blistering fast.. and comparing that with 8Mbps on cable, i would highly recommend ADSL2+ but if you however are unlucky enough to not be able to get ADSL2+ or live pretty far away from your local telephone excahange, cable will be fine as well. remember, BYTES are bigger than BITS.. so if it states Mbps that is stating in BIT form.. if it states in MB/s that is stating in BYTE form. 8Mbps is slower than 8MB/s..

And if I use peer to peer programs are my download speeds defined by the program, uploader???

Just want to get a rough idea on what speeds to expect and finally does the brand name of the modem/rputer effect the speed you recieve.

TPG actually doesnt count it

so when I can leave Bitcomet on all the time

I usually use 20GB+ a month on movies/games/music/flickr/youtube ect

yeah tpg doesn't include uploads towards your download quota which i love; i cant wait till my adsl2+ is installed.. only 4 more days
