You mean the summons, in FFXII they are called 'Espers' and there's a total of 13 of 'em... only 6 are story obtained, the others require other things to get to 'em...
What I really like about the Espers as opposed to FFX Summons is instead of:
FFX - Yuna goes into a temple <cutscene>, <cutscene>, <cutscene>.... BANG! Yuna can summon someone/thing new...
FFXII - Your Party runs up to the Esper, <small cutsene>, MASSIVE Fight with the Esper, <small custcene>, Esper appears on the *New* License Grid and any character can pick the Esper up...
Also the Gambit system is orgasmic... Think of it as a simple if-then statement (if you ever did any PC programming you'd know what I mean)... Essentially Ally=KO then use Raise, Ally HP < %50 = Curaga... Automatic actions for your characters to perform, I now have an awesome thieving party setup... 1stb character steals at Enemy HP = 100%, 2nd character attacks at enemy hp = 100%, check out some FAQs on gamefaqs oh and that reminds me:
Thieving is penultimate in this game... unlike previous FF's this games' monsters drop appropriate stuff <loot> instead of money <gil> unless you're fighting humanoid type enemies...
Damn this game is great, I could rave about it forever.
