If you like all the other types of games or want something for music, videos and brief internet sessions then go for a PSP. It's all down to personal preference.

The psp has a superiority over the ds in the graphics department, but then of course graphics arent everything.
For example the ds has a very widely spread library with many fun and interesting games, but the psp has some better games such as the GTAs, i think they are the best games on the psp but they are getting old and hopefully the new one will keep you coming back over ad over again,
the only problem is that in the past few months i haven't seen any great games, GRAW 2 had a great reputation but on psp its farely medicore and TCRSV was a big let down but lets hope that more good games are coming soon
The ds has more battery life then the psp.
The psp has more room to move with a UMD holding 1.8 gigabytes compared to the ds cartridge only holding 128 megabytes
But each handheld has their advantages and diadvantages, but overall i pick the psp cos it has awesome graphics, it can play music, videos, can go on the internet, has a camera and there even makin it a phone OMG!!!
My ratings for each system are

PSP
Graphics: 9.5/10
Library: 6.5/10
Other Features: 8.5/10
Overall: 9/10

Nintendo DS
Graphics: 6/10
Library: 9.5/10
Other Features: 4/10
Overall: 7/10

@chambalam....sales records dont really mean much. all they indicate is that:

1. price - DS is cheaper therefore more people can afford one

2. advertising - maybe nintendo has a more proven track record of marketing their DS over Sony with their PSP.

back to back, feature to feature, the psp has more going for it then a ds. its like comparing a ferrari to a ford (i would never day holden lol).

I got the ds a couple of years ago but then I got bored of it. sure, it has a huge games library along with the old advance games. but overall spending $70 on a new game and then getting bored of it after 5 minutes is not good
and hey the psp can do so much more

they didnt have the best grafics
but had awsme game play. so dont exclude a console because it has crap grafics.

I would explain gameplay as how fun the game is, how long that fun can last and how fun the fun is when replayed over and over.

An example can be something like Halo. Something fun that can be repeated over and over is sticking a grunt and watching him run steaming back into his own men and blows all of them up.

I do agree that the Zelda games are fun though. A wide land with loads of mini games and are still fun to replay today. My N64, despite how old it is, can't get itself dusty thanks to my brother.

For me the psp has many features that make it superior. Homebrew for one, plus the ability to store and play music and video files.

The DS does have some desireable features aswell, i.e. the dual screens. And touch screen. And you get to relive all the N64 and Super Nintendo games, portably and with better quality.

It all comes down to choice. Personally I prefer the PSP for its media ability. But the DS does not linger fer behind the PSP, due to its appeal to people who owned previous nintendo consoles, and prefer more "child like" gameplay.
