Our favourite NRL superstar Andrew "Joey" Johns has just admitted to taking recreational drugs for the past 10 years!!?!?!

This comes after the revelation that a melbourne based AFL club has multiple players in rehabilitation for use.

PLEASE DO NOT MENTION THE SIDE, OR EVEN HINT! WE DO NOAT WANT TO GET INTO TROUBLE

.. and yes they have been searching small sites for talk, trying to keep everyone quiet.

What does everyone think about these sport stars at the top of their game, doing drugs?

Yeah he said he's been doing it on and off for the last 10 or so years, mainly in the off-season.

I think he had his reasons, the amount of pressure he was put under, but i don't think its really an excuse, he's a role model, our best ever rugby league player, that's a mighty big throne .. sometimes you wonder if some people deserve the ackalades we offer them.

AFL Footy Show is going on about it now ...

Yeah... I spose he had reasons, but still, theres no real excuse, lots of kids looked up to him. Although he did have a big job to do. But he didnt really have to resort to drugs.

At least he had the guts to go on public tv and admitted it but I was quite shocked as well myself.

Anyway I will not have a different opinion of him but I will always consider him one of Australia's finest player who had a hell of a career!!!

What annoys me is that the media villifies a retired superstar of the game while he is in another country no less. What they should be doing is investigating the real issue of current clubs covering up a plague of recreational drug use amongst current players. Unfortunately for me I am in Townsville, now without naming the club or the paper that until recently owned the team and still maintains a strong finacial interest, (put two and two together), I have to hear daily about how the local team and it's players are virtual "saints" who are "rolemodels" of the game and the community. But I can tell you that if the media opened it's eyes on a Saturday night in night clubs locally they would see there local saints" carrying more pills than a pharmacy. *cough*halfback*cough

Yet once again instead of focussing on the probems in their own back yard, they find a scapegoat elsewhwere. Way to go out of your way to tarnish the name of a future immortal of the game.

I don't understand why some people take drugs or drink to excess. I don't care how stressful their lives or careers are, there's no excuse. Drugs and alcohol can really mess people up. Nice, caring and considerate people become liars and thieves when they get stuck into drugs and hurt not only themselves, but those closest to them, all so they can feed their habit.
Call me harsh, but those kinds of people don't deserve any kind of sympathy or help from me or anyone else (unless they realize they have a problem and genuinely want to change).

I couldn't care less if someone wants to be a complete idiot and take drugs.
But it's wrong, because not only does it affect them, it affects their family, friends, and supporters in the long run. Drugs are just bad, m'kay.

I agree repopulating, but i think he may have been coming down, he hadn't slept in 3 days. I also heard on the radio this morning that the NRL knew he was doing it, but they classed it as a rumour!!
Maybe they will take it more seriously now....maybe.

Yeah i guess.

He lost alot of respect from this.. He was a role model for kids.. Now no-one will admire and respect him..

Apparently Newcastle also knew but they did nothing..

This will lead to more drug testing in the NRL. If you heard Johns last night he said he wasn't the only one doing it.

Why don't the NRL start doing it a bit more frequently? Taking drugs when your a professional sportsman or even rockstar, especially when your a role model to others all round the world, Is just wrecking it for future generations. If they look up to us, They will be the ones taking drugs, suididing etc.

The most dissapointing thing from that interview last night is that Johns explained to his 7 yr old son bout what he done. Kids dont need a burden like that. When they're at school, They will get teased and bullied so much..

anyone who takes drugs because of pressure, and to enhance their performance, don't deserve to be in that situation, they're obviously not good enough or suited to do so

Something you're not telling us, fly?

I reckon the AFL drug tests are catching a helluva lot more players than what they're leading us to believe, i mean seriously .. a new story pops up way to often.

If any other sport did the same testing for the same periods of time (on and off season) then i'm sure the results would be fairly damn similar.
