I take my psp to work an it picks up about 5-10 open conections from the main street of town, places like centrelink, Hotels, BP, Civic Video and the library.
It's a small town it only takes about 10 minutes to drive around the entire town and scan every connection, then comes the fun part.

The State library has free wireless... A number of hips bars now have free wireless as well... Also, if you go near the telstra dome near all those apartments blocks, you always find some idiot with an insecure connection... The PSP is great for wandering the system looking for a wireless point...

I was at Melbourne Central yesterday and it has free a internet connection. I stayed there for like an hour on the net. There are power points and stations for laptops there aswell so you can charge your psp (if you carry a charger around )
