Well after the arguments about this in other threads, a news story has come out from the USA, a single mum has been sued $US9250, for each of the 24 songs. $US220,000 ($248,040 au). How about that for crazy.

Apparently, a couple of years ago, there was a news report about various ISP's (in Australia) making notes of the IP addresses of people downloading music...

Good job I say... you screw with the law, you better be prepared for it.

The only music I download is from itunes.
It's quick, it's easy, and it's legal (so I know it won't come back and bite me in the rear).
Anything itunes doesn't have, I buy on CD, then put it on my ipod (that way I have the CD for the car and just in case something happens to my ipod or computer).

last year i bought a cd (from EMI Music) and it had copy protection on it so you could not burn it, this also meant that it would not let me put it onto itunes. i own the cd and i want to be able to listen to the album on my ipod and was not available at the time on itunes. i thnk that sort of thing is stupid!

However, I'm yet to find a CD that iTunes hasn't imported.

A couple of years ago Sony BMG released a few different albums with this stupid copyright, actually might have been EMI, apparently it caused all sorts of problems, i can't recall exactly, might have been viruses or something. I remember Acceptance (band) - Phantoms (album) was one of them, apparently the band was reeeally ticked off because people woulcn't buy their album.

There's actually a LOT of stuff iTunes doesn't have, especially smaller bands etc. Which i guess you can't really expect them to have.

Ben Harper's Diamonds On The Inside was one of the first. That and I think Norah Jones. I actually had the Ben Harper one replaced by EMI because it wouldn't even play on my Mac!! I think they got severely hammered by that experiment.

There is plenty of stuff not on iTunes, but then there's also a lot of stuff I've been surprised to find. It all comes down to the record companies I guess.

Are you aware that copying YOUR CD's onto your Ipod is illegal as well?
If you ask me, it should be open slather on downloading music and all the various companies that profit from it (ISP's, blank CD makers, Apple etc etc) should pay a % of revenue to a central point, which is then distributed to the artists... This would mean shutting out the record labels, which would explain why this would never happen...
Personally If I was a musician in this day and age, all my music would be for free for download on the net... I think Radiohead are going to stun a lot of people with the money they make from their impending album launch...

You'll see that in FACT IT IS LEGAL. I've posted this abour 30 times across several posts... and YES I DO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! To get your facts right... try looking at copyright.org.au.

I know I've posted it in two other threads, but it is relevant in here too.
It is about the recent changes to the Australian copyright laws regarding copying your CDs to an MP3 player.
It is now legal, as Texinick said. So reading the article (and not just a quick glance at it) will answer anyones questions regarding copying music CDs to an MP3 player.

Yes, Radiohead are getting a LOT of publicity out of this, i think they may have chosen a good option. We'll soon see how it works out i guess.
