Social \ Problem with Internet Connection

Hi guys.. I've tried googling this one to no avail! No one out there seems to have a solution so I'm hoping that maybe you guys/girls can help me!

I have an internet connection (ADSL not ADSL2+) with Optus and so far, 2 years, it has been completely fine. I'm connected to my modem through ethernet cable.

Now my problem is that My download seems to be fine, sometimes it's a bit patchy with loading sites but if I download a file I get my normal speed! But as soon as I try and upload, ie photo's to the net, or even posting on this forum, it's so slow!! And it never works, just times out! Now as you can understand I am very very frustrated by this, it's just been going on for 4-5 days now and I still can't fix it! As it is I'm really hoping that this topic will upload for me!

Oh and the other thing is that I also have a laptop that runs on the same connection, only it's wireless and it works fine! Just the computer, connected through ethernet that seems to be stuffed up.. And I have got Registry Mechanic, SpyWare and Ad-Aware.. And they all find nothing...

I've also tried www.ozspeedtest.com and the download test was fine.. The upload just never worked! Always timed out on me..

But this page loading is downloading, which I'm not having a problem with... I'm talking about uploading being slow.. As in when I reply it sometimes won't even load at all, it'll just time out and display that internet page cannot be displayed. And this is after several minutes. So far I've been lucky in being able to post these comments...

Im guessing also you dont browse the net while downloading... as this will affect your speed.

Another thing is have you tried rebooting your modem and trying that to see how your connection goes?

Have you rang optus and ask them to check your connection.... you might need them to check the connection... i had same probs with my ips and they fix it up....

Another thing it might be that your modem is just dying... same thing happened to me my net connection was going slow ass and i got my mdem replaced and it fixed my problem....

I would suggest doing those things before trying to do anything to your comp as it could be ur modem or landline thats the prob...

Oh yeh also have you tried clearing you cookies...and the temporary internet files... that should also help

Hmmm, I'll try getting rid of Registry Mechanic then.. By rebooting, if you mean trying to refreash the IP address, then I have done that.. And I've turned it off, pulled the power plug out, pulled all cables out and re done it all.. That didn't change much or nothing!

I still do browse while I'm downloading.. I was downloading the SP1 for Vista the other night.. Some 450mb and the speed of the download stayed at around 130kbps the entire time which is rather good for me! And I was browsing at the same time..

I haven't tried calling optus yet as they won't talk to me (it's not in my name..) But it could be my modem dying.. I have a Linksys and I hate it! haha, so if it doesn't all fix I guess I'll have to try and buy a new one..

And yes, I regularly clear out the cookies and temps..

So being without internet on my computer for so long.. I finally ran it down to the fact that my ethernet ports on my modem are stuffed.. So I gave in and decided to hook my wireless card up and now all systems are running without any hassles! And of course all of it hasa broken down JUST outside of the one year warrantee it has... Grrr. But now I just have to hope the wireless won't stuff up for a while yet..

yeh that was my next thing i was going to ask you.... if you have your ports forwarded properly and have the programs not to be blocked in your windows firewall.... but id say it most probs ur port forwarding that hasn't been done properly.... what are u using?? utorrent?? because u can check if the ports are forwarded correctly there
