K-Man's Review of Twisted Metal: Head-On - 8/10

My Review Of

By K-Man

So another Twisted Metal tournament has begun once again which means more crashes, more explosions, more missiles and bullets shooting everywhere, but don't these people ever learn?!?! Twisted Metal: Head-On is the first Twisted Metal game to come to the Playstation Portable and is one of the beginning games when the PSP first came out 2 years ago. TMHO is considered to be the true sequel to Twisted Metal 2 since it picked up where it left off. TMHO is about a game where a sick man named Calypso holds a competition where every year he chooses random contestants and makes them destroy each other with customized cars that include missiles, dynamite, bullets, and a certain special weapon that each car has. But what makes the contestants ant to kill each other, well the winner of the competition gets one wish from Calypso. The strangest thing is that when the winer makes a wish it backfires, this is a message saying "be careful what you wish for"

And now what's a bloody competition without some contestants? Well there are some that have returned from previous Twisted Metal games and some that are new, here are some of them: (NOTE: I got their info from Wikipedia.com)

RoadKill
Driver: Marcus Kane
Marcus is Sweetooth's other personality. He is constantly haunted by recurring nightmares about competing in Twisted Metal tournaments which keep getting worse and worse. Marcus enters the Head-On tournament to put an end to his nightmares.

Marcus's car represents a type of offroad racer from the 80's and it's special weapon is "Boomerang"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr.Grimm
Driver: Mr.Grimm

Mr. Grimm is the Grim Reaper. One point in his career of leading souls into the next life, he devoured a soul instead, and formed an addiction, devouring souls rather than delivering them. Addicted to the point of insanity, Mr. Grimm enters the Head-On
tournament to give away his title to another man.

Mr. Grimm drives a specially equipped motorcycle and it's special is "Screaming Soul"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sweet Tooth
Driver: Needles Kane

Needles Kane is the mascot of Twisted Metal. He has competed in every Twisted Metal tournament since the beginning, but he has become tired of the same routine. Needles enters the Head-On tournament to take Calypso's place as the Twisted Metal leader.

Needles' car represents an ice cream truck, yet with his special weapon mounted at the top and it's special is "Napalm Cone"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Axel
Driver: Axel

10 years ago, Axel was forced into a large 2-wheeled contraption by his father. When he finally freed himself, he was permanently disfigured. After that, Axel met Doctor Zemu, who constructed cybernetic arms and feet that allowed him to ride the vehicle again. But in return, Axel would have to give Zemu his wish when he wins Twisted Metal.

Axel's car consists of two giant wheels, which are connected to his robotic hands and feet and it's special is "Shock Wave"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warthog
Driver: Colonel Hall
Ever since his childhood, Colonel Hall wanted to be in the military. He exceeded in all forms of combat with his extraordinary tactical power. Colonel Hall was sent into the Head-On tournament by the Army to retrieve an extremely powerful weapon that'll wipe out all the evil-doers in the world.

Colonel Hall drives a heavily armored army Humvee and it's special is "Patriot Missiles"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Driver: Krista Sparks

Krista Sparks is revealed to be the ghost of Calypso's deceased daughter. He and his entire family were killed in a car accident, but Calypso survived by stealing a demon [Minion]'s powers. Even with these powers, he can only summon his family's spirits temporarily. Krista enters the Head-On tournament to become alive again.

Krista drives a green offroad buggy and it's special is "Body Slam"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Twister
Driver:Miranda Watts

Miranda Watts is Amanda Watts' (of Twisted Metal II) twin sister. Amanda disappeared after winning Twisted Metal a few years ago, and Miranda has been searching for her ever since. Calypso offers Miranda a place in the Twisted Metal tournament in return for one wish. No stranger to the world of racing, Miranda agrees to enter the Head-On tournament to have her sister returned.

Miranda drives a special type of Grand Prix car and it's special is Tornado Twist
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So basically all you do in this game is play in several different levels like in Egypt,Paris,Rome,Greece,Russia, and even a somewhat level of Los Angeles. And in each level, all you do is kill several other cars to make yourself one more step closer to finishing the competition. Well that's not all to TMHO, there are other side quests where you have to do some challenges in certain levels to unlock more cars and levels. Each car and it's diver has an ending story so that will convince you to finish the game with each car and also to unlock the other remaining cars

Here is my results:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Graphics - 8/10
-The graphics are surprisingly good for a first PSP game. Even though it's not like it runs at 720p or 1080p, th graphics are still decent enough to be appreciated
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Story- 7/10
-Basically all you do is kill a bunch of other cars and in different levels trying to unlock it's ending, nuff' said
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gameplay - 9/10
-The gameplay is awesome, why? Well because you have a lot of destructive we pons in which you get to choose, i mean if even when destroying another vehicle is a lot fun. Even the levels have destructive environments in which you can lead your opponents in. You can even destroy the Eifle Tower!!! O_O

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sound - 9/10
- I like the sound, you can easily hear it and is clear. So clear you can hear every bullet you've been shooting
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
