Hey all,

Im looking to buy a SE w900i mobile phone off ebay. Though im a bit lost with why I should buy an Australian model of the phone which is about $100 more.

Is there any reason why I should spend the extra and get an AUS model?

The seller states that the international phone will work with any Australian sim card. I belive this, but will my 3G and such work here?

Thanks heaps

I was waiting for that phone (but gave up, took too long and my N80 came! YAY) I think it would be fine, alot of AU mobile stores online have phones early because they have imported them. I have also seen reports on forums from many people buying off ebay from overseas with no problems.

presumably u've thout about possible batt. issues? some battries have lower voltage than aus (tho most electronics enable world-wide useage)... also the charger...?

Thanks for the replies.

Egos: It says it comes with an adapter for the charger. I've never heard of the battery being a problem.

warranty is also an issue

HK warranty are not valid in Aus so if there's anything goes wrong, u'll need to send it back to HK (which can cost 40-50)

Thanks for the info zfishes, I was hoping you could help, you seem quite the pro.

I think i'll pay the extra $70 for the Aus one so I can get the warranty.

Sometimes the seller has dealers in AU which you can take it to for warranty purposes. There were a few digital cameras I was looking at recently who sold heaps of diff electronics incl phones and they had dealers based in AU for if anything went wrong.
If the difference is so little though Id just get an AU one. Id only go overseas if there was a huge saving.

the w900 is one huge b****!!! i wouldn't recommend it if you have a problem with size. on the other hand, it packs plenty of features (given its size, duh!) but i'm not a fan of the swivel design. especially when the phone is so huge, it'd be quite difficult to get used to opening the phone up. and the colors aren't that great either. apart from that, if you're gonna need 3G/3.5G then i guess there's nothing wrong with the phone, but i've heard its got some battery issues and as zfishes said, if its from overseas, you'd better hope that the firmware on the phone is up-to-date with a little bugs as possible and that the phone is in tip top condition, otherwise you're going to be spending alot more than you thought. good luck on ur phone!

I know too many people that had theirs replaced in the first couple of months.. not to say theyre all bad but theres enough bad stories for me to warn ppl off it. Even the SAs Ive spoken to about it have warned me off it lol

Is the W900i out yet?? I cant find an AU retailer who has it in nor can I find it on any of the AU websites that dont import early??

i think a few stores in Aus sell them but i heard not too many think it will do so well because of its bulk, and due to the fact that many other phones will hit the market soon. with the v3x, i find its quite .......... the software is just too too buggy, even with the updates to the flash/flex

the w810 is a great phone. i had a fiddle with it at the shops the other day when i went with my gf and her uncle to buy him a phone (her family depends on me when it comes to phone decisions). its camera quality is superb, not quite the 3.2mp that the newer camera phones are boasting but 2mp with macro mode and autofocus does the job quite well -- worry about that if you are requiring something with a good camera. function wise its pretty similar to the w800 apart from the odd additional feature here n there but yeah. its design is quite sexy (black and orange) but you may need to update the software if you dont have the latest software on the phone - i heard there are a few bugs in older software. i'm still using my d600 and it is great, the camera quality is great (although doesnt have autofocus or macro mode so close up shots and text scanning isnt that great) and the best feature of the phone is the voice clarity; it offers such clear quality reception and voice! g'luck with ur phone buying decisions!

Your the man Huey!

While your on might as well ask you..

Are there any phones that match the w900i's features?

I want a phone with a large screen that can play mp4s and mp3s and support 2gb duos and all round match the w900i.

Thanks heeeaps!

I just got my Nokia N80 on Friday and I have to say its the best phone Ive ever had. The features are just fantastic. Theyre not officially released yet, but well worth looking out for. I managed to get the last one of 5 Telechoice got in the other day. Got fantastic features, 3mp camera, wifi, music player, etc. I just bought a 1gb memory card for it for $32 incl post!
