Social \ Eulogy Song

Ok, so I did not actually see this on TV, but the Chaser's War on Everything performed a song on Wednesday 17/10/07 (repeated on Friday 19/10/07) called the "Eulogy song". I read the words in a free publication called "MX".

Before this point, I was just bemused that they were in the spotlight again - oblivious to what the fuss was all about.

Then I read the words and I was DISGUSTED!

This is one point where the whole team has gone too far. They have finaly crossed that barrier of morals. If there was a petition going around for them to be pulled off air... I would sign it in a heartbeat!

I mean I laughed at their other jokes... but this one... is just one that has gone too far.

So what is your opinion?

Is this the one that everyone is complaining about? The one where the band makes fun of dead celebrities like Don Bradman, Steve Irwin etc?

Shame on them.

Haha, when I clicked on the title of this thread I thought it was about what song you'd have at your own funeral...

My song would have to be the themesong from the Kids TV show "What's in the box" that used to be on channel 10 in the morning.

Oh my gawd boostn7 - that's nasty... especially if you pop out like they used to in the show! Give them kiddies a right old fright!

Um, I don't D... I read it in a physical newspaper. But they still have the video on the age website.

Lol I didn't mean it like that. My family and friends have always known me as humorous. I just want to bring a bit of humour so it's a little less hurtful if they remember me.

BUT WAIT!!

... I'm not dead yet.

Everything the Chaser guys do is for a reaction.
Drawing attention to something they have done is exactly the point of why they do what they do.
Although not reacting to it encourages them to go further next time.

The song was indeed in poor taste. And such an attack on someone who can't defend themselves is deplorable. But they sort of had a point.

I don't mean about the celebrities, so don't misunderstand me.
I meant about how when someone dies (an average person), regardless of how of horrible they were, people always only think about and mention the good aspects of them.

I think that was the point of the song (and to get a reaction from everyone).

Anyway, signing a petition for their ban isn't going to work. They're too popular. So why would ABC or any other station get rid of them? And as I said, that is the kind of reaction they want.

Now, as I said, don't misunderstand me, ok. I'm not condoning what the Chasers did to the memories of the celebrities mentioned. I'm merely looking at their motives and the meaning of the song.

I like the chasers. but having recently suffered a death in my family I think that song was in very poor taste. what about the people who were close to those they were picking on.

though you must understand that all this publicity about it would be exactly what they wanted.

for people who don't know what this is I've added a video:

i do belive that they went too far, but it's what they do. alot of the stuff that they do IS funny though. they seem to think that they are invincible. On one point though, they did put a warning about dead people being mentioned at the start.............i think they should be punnished, but not taken off air

I can imagine the finale show of The Chasers this year just being a massive apology episode to everyone they've offended lol.

I think this was a wee bit too far, although insectoid hit the nail on the head imo.

edit.

After watching it again, i don't think it was THAT bad. Maybe the Stan Zemanek bit and yea, i think it's not so much WHAT he said, but actually that he had the tenacity to perform it.

Well Princess Di, i think people should just get the ... over her, it was over 10 years ago. She was a Princess, for gods sake it's not the medievil ages. We all know "Royalty" does absolutely nothing for society nowadays anyway.

But i guess, bagging ANY dead person is low.

Actually, IAC, Princess Di did a lot for charity. I can't remember exactly what at the moment, but I do know she did help others less fortunate.

there was speculation that princess di only did all that charity to increase her popularity (heh heh, rhyming)

anyway, we're a little off topic, picking on dead people who have done nothing MASSIVELY wrong is just sick, disrespectful and pathetic. if you think something about someone have to guts to say it too their face.
