I'd rather 50gb of good uncompressed quality of a move rather than a 50gb movie compressed into a standard 4.7gb dvd.

Well according to things I've read it appears that both use shortwave lazers and all they feature in difference to each other is that BluRay holds a bit more and can be used at a higher bit rate. Both are just upgraded versions of any type of optical disc, so therefore neither must be next gen.

well, you could argue that the people that have to keep buying new machines to play them care.

yeah but that's in America. I think we'll still have them down here for a while yet, and after that you'll still be able to pick up a few in the bargain bins.

HD TV's still work with Blu-ray.
You'll need to replace your players though if you want to watch high-def films.
I don't know what the markets like over there, but over here it's still cheaper to buy a PS3 than a Bluray player...
Get a PS3

It's the same here. Ironic thing is, the cheaper Blu-Ray player in the Playstation 3 is probably the best one out there.
but now that blu-ray is gonna get more popular, the price of the players will drop.

Well yeah, as the competition for them increases that's an obvious business trend.
But currently, The PS3 is the best thing to buy to watch Blu-ray.
And it was like that with the DVD players.
A DVD player that cost like £15 were better than the expensive ones.
Some even to the point, cut out region coding DVD players to reduce costs

Same with us. tbh I jsut use my PS3 though... it's in my room.
But downstairs where everyone is, it's just a cheap one.
