No, not to ban art in general, but a particularly disgusting piece.

Amid controversy, the Costa Rica´s Visual Arts Biennial (Bienarte) 2007 opened last night strict and small selection of works; Six artists and rewarded with the pass to represent the country at the "Biennale Centroamericana Honduras 2008".

One of the artists, captured a stray dog, tied it to the wall and left it to starve to death as his "artwork".

I'm all for freedom of expression, but this is simply too much. There are pictures of the work, but I'd rather not post them.

Please, sign the petition to get this "artwork" banned from being displayed in public.

How anyone can think that this is art is beyond me. There is a HUGE difference between art and cruelty to animals. And those that can't tell the difference shouldn't be allowed anywhere near either (mostly kept away from animals though).

Insectiod, I hope for your sake you didn't see too many of the photos (thankfully I haven't seen any).

It doesn't matter if someone is a vegetarian or not. They can still care about animals (although I have to admit that it's inhumane how live stock are made to suffer).
I agree with Kalil that animals also deserve respect.

I'm not going to look at the link, but even if the photos aren't graphic that's not the point. It's the fact that the dog was made to suffer.

I am not a vegetarian. But I care very much about animals. I respect them, I do know how they can be treated and that does make me sad, I try my best to voice my opinion about better treatment. I unfortunately cannot be vegetarian. But just because I'm not doesn't mean I don't care.

The dog doesnt even look dead, most people would of assumed it were asleep if someone didnt go and say that it starved to death. And I heard that it was just a hoax? But if the dog really did die, then someone should go make the artist starve to death aswell. Other than that, I dont see anything really wrong about the picture...

Just goes to show how things can be blown out of context on the internet. Although I have to admit it's wrong how the poor dog was used like that.
For those that can't be bothered reading the links, the dog apparently escaped about a day after the exhibition.
Like Mateo said, it was also apparently fed, and only tide up for about three hours.
I would like to know the artists 'vision' behind it all though.
