Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade - 5/10
When I thought of writing a game review, I thought, hmmm…what’s something I can review that no one will really care about? Something old, just so I can have a go at reviewing something. I looked through my games and found Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade. It was the first game I got on my PSP, so I thought, why not? I put the game in, and remembered I had deleted my completed game save a while ago. So, I start the game again. About an hour in I suddenly remembered why I hurriedly went out and bought another game as soon as I finished it. After playing this as my first game I had to be sure that there were some decent games out there.
GAMEPLAY:
In Untold Legends you play a hero, who must save Aven, the last haven for good, from the lurking evil which has been gathering. The controls are simple, with your basic, attack and ‘special’ or ‘spell’. The battles are far too simple, with monotonous hack and slash gameplay. Every monster is the same, you run; you slash at it or shoot at it till its dead, and get rewarded with a potion, a new weapon, some armour, an item and/or gold. The only difference is how the monsters look, and how much HP they have.
You start in the city of Aven, where various people will give you quests. In Aven there is a shop, a teleporter, and entrances to various areas. The teleporter can take you to various other teleporters which you have activated. This is very helpful for getting to far away places later on in the game.

As you progress through the game it only gets easier. You level, get higher skills and better weapons faster than the monsters get stronger. Eventually I was trudging through the levels checking my map every five seconds for the red skull which showed me where the boss was, or to look for the doorway to the next area. By the time I got to the final boss battle, the game had become so dull I was just playing because I was determined to finish.
Any item you have can be sold at the shop. This way you can make easy money, fast. But it doesn’t matter. You don’t need the money because everything you need comes free from killing stuff.

This makes the game unrewarding and doesn't give you any incentive to finish it once, let alone play it again.

SOUND:
The sound in this game is so irritating I would suggest you turn it off. As you wade through the game, the same annoying chord progressions get played over and over again. Each set of original musical ideas is not very long, and the music easily heightened my frustration and boredom with the game. Just hearing the music now sends shivers up my spine, and gives me a feeling of dread. Everything in the story is text based so some voice acting wouldn’t have gone astray either.

GRAPHICS:
The graphics are almost the only thing worth buying Brotherhood of the Blade for. Each monster is designed well and proportioned against the character. The makers have obviously taken some effort to try and make each enemy, and each person look different.
An Underground Area
The levels, or areas, however, are a different story. They look very good, especially for the PSP, but they are repeated so often I forgot where I was because they look so similar. All underground areas look the same, all woods areas look the same, all highland areas look the same ect. I got annoyed at the lack of effort in making different areas to explore and play in.

OVERALL:
Overall Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade is a badly thought out game, boasting a great storyline, which is, in reality, unsatisfying and forgettable. I almost get the feeling that it was quickly slapped together to make the cut off for a release title. It seems the developers have focused more on quantity, not quality, and that mistake has created a un-noteworthy game, and trying to play it again has only reminded me of why I put it down in the first place.
