nickop says:

WOW! How damn good was that match! Superb performance by alomost every player! Lets re-cap this shall we?

Okay the match started out with Australia easily on top. We had a few really good build ups but just couldnt capitalise. 2 corner kicks that had extremely good placement but we stilll couldnt get to it.

Japan started to pick up the pace soon after and because of a stupid referee a clear foul on our goalkeeper, Schwarzer while Shunsuke Nakamura scored a goal of Japan giving them a 1-nil lead. Half time went and still the same scoreline, up untill the 80th minute nothing really changed.

Then the master Guus Hiddink subsituted 2 of our players for Tim Cahil and John Aloisi. Immediantly they had an impact, espcially Cahil. A throw in into the penalty box cause great confusion but it was Cahil who found the ball and put it to the back of the net! Amazing, the crowd was wild!

Just 5 minutes later, history was created. Once again Tim Cahil had a strike of the ball just outside the box producing one of the best goal this WC! Bouncing off the 2 post the ball made its way straight into the goal and into the record books! Then 3 minute later Aloisi score a superb goal beating the Japanese GK and giving us the 3-1 win which will always be remebered for generations to come!

IAMColonel says:

I'm still in disbelief with that goal!!!!!!!! aaarggh

Did u guys hear Schwarzer say that the ref admitted to making a mistake.

i guess the ref wasn't all bad, looking back omfg the japs should've had the most blatent penalty, but good work ref, broke our hearts then saved our asses.

But hey thats JUSTICE!

And the better team provailed.

COMON SOCCEROOS!

Anyone see the Rosicky goal poooowwwww. Absolute pearler!

nickop says:

OMG! That Goal was amazing, i just watched the replay on EuroSport and was in disbelief! That was no fluke, just perfectly aimed and stuck, curled a fair amount and just beat the goalkeeper, pure brilliance!

I didnt hear that with Schwarzer and the Ref, it was a clear mistake. Too bad it wasnt picked up on!

I cant wait for tomorrow's early match between CROATIA and Brazil

Hmmm..i wouldnt get too confident, this could be really bad for Australia. I highly doubt anyone will be able to pose too much of a threat to Brazil. Australia will have to beat Croatia but we'll see how they go tonight.

13 Jun 2006 - 16:42 Melbourne

IAMColonel says:

Japan will deffinately finish bottom, can't see them taking a point off anyone. Let alone win a game!

Tonight games:

South Korea v Togo 11pm:
Togo got one player, adebayor. Korea will be to good, not one of the African teams has done the typical upset yet, soo maybe tonight?
Me:3-1

France v Switzerland 2am:
I believe that these 2 teams will go through to RD of 16. France will make for a very unpredicatable team, Switzerland's biggest name players are defenders, so does that say anything?
Me: 1-1

Brazil v Croatia 5am:
I'm tempted to go to bed then get up for this one. Brazil are obviously the World Champions, but i reckon are too cocky coming into the world cup, from Australia's point of view lets hope Croatia don't put em back in their place. Brazil's defence is still a bit shaky but their forwards are outragously dominant. Croatia have 3 rejected Australians in their squad, 2 of which will probably start. Nickop give us a rundown on the croats.
Me: plz 3-1

13 Jun 2006 - 16:57 Melbourne - Nbo says:when i git my psss im going to have a nice car an have sex in it

nickop says:

Yep im agreeing with you on the South Korea vs Togo match, i cant see Togo doing too well at all, especially after their coach left them just 6 days ago! 2-0 in South Korea's favour.

I think France will break through the Swiss defense, they have just too much international experience and will do the job, 2-nil also.

Well this is my team (apart from the Aussies) against the BEST team in the world. Im saying a 1-1 draw! Yes im backing my team, why? Because Brazil's weakness is their defense. Look who they have back, Gilberto ( not the one from Arsenal), Cicinho, Roberto Carlos and Cafu. Not the best actually, still can cause gaps and let goals in. Sure they're attacking and midfield are amazing but they're gonna have issues with the defense.

Watch Niko Kranjcar, Niko Kovac, Dado Pršo, Ivan Bošnjak and Ivan Klasnic wreak havoc. Then the Croats still have Robert Kovac, Igor Tudor, Stjepan Tomas and Stipe Pletikosa to stop the Brazilian players! Croatia is a darkhorse which many people over look. Well i'll wake up just for this Cant wait!

13 Jun 2006 - 17:46 Melbourne

IAMColonel says:

Do you know if the Aussies Simunic, Seric and Didulica are starting, Simunic would have to he's not ot bad a player.

I think Cafu and Roberto Carlos are past it, too old and fat.

Ronaldo will be useless this World Cup, watch out for ADRIANO, and i'd say that Ronaldo will get the nod ahead of Robinho, so Robinho won't make too bigger impact. Can't go past Ronaldinho.

13 Jun 2006 - 18:00 Melbourne - Nbo says:when i git my psss im going to have a nice car an have sex in it

nickop says:

Im pretty sure, Simunic will start, i highly doubt Seric will with just 14 caps to his name and Didulica is the 3rd choice goalkeeper behind Pletikosa and Butina.

Yeh i agree, Cafu and Carlos are too old, and Ronaldo is extremely fat! I couldnt believe it when i saw him recently in a Real Madrid press conference. Ardiano is my second fav Brazil player, that goal in the Confederations Cup was one of the best ever! Of course Ronaldinho is my fav

13 Jun 2006 - 18:28 Melbourne

Mars says:

Australia definatly stands a small chance against brazil. Senegal beat France.

13 Jun 2006 - 18:34 Melbourne, Victoria

nickop says:

Oh yeh of course, any team stands any chance against another, but i couldnt see the Socceroos doing too well though, just not enough experience over the Brazilians. Yeh Sengal beat France! Biggest upset ever!

13 Jun 2006 - 18:38 Melbourne

stonecold says:

Brazil will destroy Australia I predict(4 - 0) just because Aust won 1 game people and the media are getting to excited and even if Australia made it to the next round
(which they wont) they will be up against italy or the chec republic.
I hope croatia beat brazil.
thats my 2cents.

14 Jun 2006 - 13:45 CRIPS FOR LIFE

IAMColonel says:

You guys don't know (bad word)!

If u watched Brazil last night you would've seen Brazil allowed to do what they wanted in the 1st half and then get overrun in the 2nd, by a very unlucky Croatian side.

Brazil struggled to keep hold of the ball, and if they don't improve dramatically (I’m tipping they will) then they won't have any chance of even making it to the semis.

After all of the praise i gave Brazil, i am now doubting my opinion. Brazil has 3 main strikers, 2 of them are fat and probably in the biggest form slumps of their lives (Adriano and Ronaldo) and Robinho who is inexperienced and isn't going to single handedly win them the world cup. Their other attacking player Ronaldinho, needs these forwards to work off, and this didn't happen this morning. Ronaldo and Adriano were useless, and Robinho barely got a touch when he came on.

Brazil's formation is to obvious now, their 2 defensive midfielders, Emerson and Ze Roberto (who's actually a left winger) are 2 big names, the last few world cups, these positions have been filled by no names, which have proven themselves, the defensive midfield is Brazil's most important position coz their defense is crap.
150 posts yay!

14 Jun 2006 - 15:23 Melbourne - Nbo says:when i git my psss im going to have a nice car an have sex in it

IAMColonel says:

God this is a long post……continued

Croatia was great, but I feel they definitely need a clinical striker, someone that can score goals, like Suker could. Prso and klasnic or krancjer (can't remember which one) are their main forwards, and had a couple of chances each and failed to finish, Babic also had a chance, with his opposite foot though.

An unconvincing brazil should have gone down to a solid Croatian side, who's goal only came because of Kovac's early departure due to injury.

Korea won 2-1. Togo went in front thanks to a great finish from one of their no names. Adebayor plays like he’s their only player (which he is) but it doesn’t work well against a decent side.

Korea aren’t as good as what they were under Hiddink. Togo captian got sent off, resulting free kick was put away, a better keeper would’ve had it! 2nd goal, deflection, same story, better keeper would’ve had it!

Korea 2-1 Togo
France 0-0 Swiss
Brazil 1-0 Croatia

i picked 3 from 3 yay!
