TGS "e;09: Three free games when you upgrade to a PSPgo

Sony has announced the PSPgo Rewards programme at this year's Tokyo Game Show. The scheme is designed for people who already have a PSP with UMD games and wish to upgrade to a PSPgo. People who upgrade between October 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010 will be able to download three games free of charge.

To be eligible you must first register your brand new PSPgo on PSN, and then jump onto PSN using your PSP 1000-3000 with a UMD inserted. At this point you'll be promoted to download a PSPgo theme and be sent a voucher via email to redeem your free games.

You'll be able to chose 3 games from a list of 17 which includes: Killzone: Liberation, SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3, Wipeout Pure, Everybody's Golf, echochrome, Buzz!: Brain Bender, Buzz!: Master Quiz, LocoRoco, Patapon and 8 others that are yet to be confirmed.

Sony is yet to announce any plans for existing PSP owners to be able to download their UMD collection on their new PSPgo if they chose to upgrade. If Sony don't opt to offer a service along these lines then there's really no incentive for PSP gamers to upgrade, as they will not be able to play games they already own on the revised system without repurchasing them.

The PSPgo launches in Australia on October 1 for a RRP of AUD $449.

3 free games for the PSP Go is alright considering all you need to do is already own an older PSP and one game. This new product will probably suffer poor launch sales in most countries because of the entry price and boycott from some retailers and this appears to be the way Sony is going to attempt to push as many sales as they can. Gamers are going to need a few good reasons to buy it after all.
