Oh wow. Finally a discussion I can get into.

Ok - so here goes!

Yes I am a catholic, yes I went to World Youth Day and yes I had the time of my life.

Some of the things that were said in this thread is just ridiculous. You blanketly stereotype the whole group of people that follow a belief because of a couple of extremists? If this was a Muslim event, would anyone have even questioned it?

I got attacked on the train, but I chose not to react. What is reacting going to do? The other person eventually walked away in frustration, yelling profanities and all I said was... "I'll pray for you".

You guys want to laugh at my beliefs? Go ahead, you are entitled to your opinion. But have we harmed anyone in doing this event? Others have thier gatherings, this one is ours. Sure there were a bunch of people that could have quitened down when were trying to sleep @ randwick... but that's ok.

And I greatly appreciate the people who let me sleep in their home. If we were all a little more caring, kind, understanding, then perhaps we wouldn't have all this hate and discrimination going around.

Please, I welcome all your comments. I am not perfect, and may not have an answer to all of it, but I choose to show that I stand for something, rather than cower away, fearful of the ridicule I might face.

I can't wait to meet a person like that. Oh my (fake) god they will cop a word or two.
WYD is a total waste of money.
And we all know the pope is evil. He shouldn't be allowed in the country, look at the evidence:
I just believe can't all this crap, WORLD youth day comprises of a bunch of brainwashed youths from one demographic (catholic) wasting their lives away on lies LIES!

I totally agree

why dont christians hold this event around their holy city the vatican or whatever its called instead of choosing some random city around the world and in a sense, 'invading it' to do their thing.

i think it's a nice thing for them to get together but it's also in a way pretty inconsiderate of them.
of course they're probably not the only ones to blame for that the government probably supported it too obviously for the economical benefits.

Mr. Toad - World Youth Day occurs every year in Rome at the Vatican. However the international one occurs every three years. I'm unsure of the voting process but it is an honour for it to come to any city/country.

I highly doubt that it is an invasion. They have not come to take the land, nor have they come to shove a belief down anyones throats? As for the inconvenience that it caused... did the pilgrims not share in their gladness with you? Were they not friendly and give you a warm smile at the least? The whole event was planned outside of the "peak" hour traffic and they were encouraged not to use the system during those times. Perhaps you chose to travel at the same time they did?

Learning more about a topic can perhaps present a balanced opinion?

Do you? That's cool... I guess the real test comes in whether you actually follow it or not.

I went to a public school but was brought up in a catholic family and I made a choice to go there.

And yes Vinzor... the cake is a lie... Imagine the CALORIES on that

Weeeell the fact that this god dude is apparently real

It's like as if religious people are sanctioned into a cage, told what to do, what to think, and if they don't - they will go to hell! OMG!

Okay i can't really be bothered ranting, and i'll be honest i've never really done the research to put up a decent argument (or total shutdown) of a devout religious person, like yourself.

People should be who they want to be, not what some pedophile in a cape reads out of a book that was written by some hobos in the middle ages (slight exaggeration).

Wow, I find that highly offensive!

Just because of the few people that do wrong under the guise of priests, not everyone should be condemned!

In today's courts when being tried for murder, you need one witness to put you away for a decent amount of time and two to be absolutely sure. However there are nearly 450 or so "hobo" accounts about Jesus. And they all varied slightly. Two people can look at the same event and each one will take something slightly different away from it. If all of the "hobo" accounts were the same, I'd be questioning the authenticity of the book myself.

Okay i can't really be bothered ranting, and i'll be honest i've never really done the research to put up a decent argument (or total shutdown) of a devout religious person, like yourself.

As for being devout? Hardly... I'm pretty sure I can do more to be relegious. And I'm far from being perfect. I believe in this because it works for me... not because of you're first point.

It seems to me that perhaps you've been hurt and if, by any chance you did believe in a higher presence, it has now been removed. Well, maybe if people did have a little more faith and did follow some of the principles, maybe then you wouldn't have had to go through whatever you experienced.

Of course the same could be said about the abuse stuff. We are humans at the end of the day and we make mistakes. What sets us apart from animals is that we can learn from them and keep records so that future generations will know about it and can learn from them too.

And yes, I still do find you're overtly exaggerated quote offensive. It comes as a double shock that it's come from an Admin. However, like I've always maintained, you have a right to your opinion... however unbalanced as it maybe...

Why should it be? Its a topic that should be discussed. Maybe filter had the right idea after all....

But if the Admins see it fit, then fine. And if you think my response was in anyway out of line, please do tell me.

Religion is the best. I love it. Without it we wouldn't have an excuse to start 90% of wars, encourage the spread of HIV (especially in Africa. Remember, condoms are bad folks!) and condemn countless teenage girls to a generally bad fate (abortions are bad too guys and gals, remember abortions are illegal for religious reasons, the legislation is simply loosely interpreted)and thats just a few of the many reasons I love religion. God bless you all, may the Liberals regain political power and put an end to it all. Tony Abbott for Prime Minister!.

Idiots. Feel free to take offense, just don't start a holy war on the Atheists, your no worse/better than the Muslims. Remember that.

Donno about the other states but not in QLD.

All I have to say is, life isn't a rehearsal for anything. You only get one so you may as well enjoy it. If you want to be a completely moralistic boring person who lives by the Lords rules, fine. But you'll have a boring life and be severely disappointed when you loose consciousness and then theres nothing afterwards. Well no. you wont be disappointed because there will be no consciousness to be disappointed.

Woah, awesome quotes. Where do I begin.

Once again, I think everyone seems to miss the point of learning from the past.... but anyhoo. No one is here to start a holy war or anything.

As for the spread of HIV, well, their best method to combat it is to abstain. In families, if you loved your spouse, you wouldn't do that to them if you knew you had the disease, would you? (unless you're a sick freak). As for rape, well - that's an open and shut argument!

As for abortions, as far as technology has come, it's not come far enough. Who has the right to start and end life? Science cannot explain the spark that creates all life. Ok, perhaps... it has not found the answer yet... but ask any scientist, they will happily tell you about their faith... well the majority anyway (the others... give em time ). Plus with abortions... is anyone emotionally prepared to go through the loss of a child, when there are couples eager to have kids? It seems like everybody wants all the fun without the responsibilities! Quite selfish tbh. Why are there so many divorces? Now, I'm not relating it back to "lack of relegion", but perhaps having some sort of commitment to one person: 'no matter what' - does have it's good points?

And thank you for pointing right at me UTL. Please tell me where I have said I am better than anyone? If not, why attack me? Maybe, you're placing me on a higher moral ground... something that I didn't
