The Blu-ray and HD-DVD FORMAT WAR IS OVER!
LG rolled out a player that can play Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs on a single tray.

Interesting but how has this ended the war between the two formats? I'm guessing that this player is exspensive.

A spokemans said the product were designed to focus on consumer needs rather than engineering prowess in handling a wide array of media content and formats.
Also Warner Bros announced a HD-DVD disc that can hold films and TV shows in both Blu-ray and HD-DVD The new disc is called Total HD.
The player will cost $US1199.

If you ask me the HD-DVD BLUE-RAY war is far from over lets be honest. The BLUE-RAY players are so much more than HD-DVD players I mean you can get a HD-DVD player for the 360 for less than £150 (not sure what that is in $ but not alot) where as the BLUE-RAY players are around £500+. Qulity are good on both and both do 1080p so what are the buyers most likely going to go for? We'll have to wait and see on that one.

I think HD-DVD will probably win unless Blue-Ray drops its price. This comment is about the players as the disc are roughly the same price.

stonecold said: The case for blue-ray

Blu-ray upside

High capacity
Can output to 1080p
Widespread industry support
Comes in the PS3 as standard
Backwards compatible with DVDs and CDs

Blu-ray downside

Could be more expensive than HD DVD players
No movies available in Australia--yet
Top of the line gear needed to make it shine

The case for HD DVD

HD DVD upside

High capacity
Widespread industry support
Cheaper prices for players
Twin disc support
Backwards compatible with DVDs and CDs

HD DVD downside

Currently maxes out at 1080i resolution
No HD DVD movies available--yet
Game support only in the form of an Xbox360 add-on

but once i read someting that sony had stuff up wit that 1080p thingy and it like dont work propper wit some HD tv's and thats just that it can get up to 1080p not set like that
btw blu-rays also have cause sony some problems thats why ps3 not in aussie yet...
sony ran out of blu-rays lasers (things that read discs for those who dont know) and couldn't make more ps3's sothey had a choice of sendin them to aussie & NZ or europe, not hard to figure were sony decided. (america and japan already had thiers)

Yeah true its some or evan most HD tvs only go up 2 1080i only select few that can put out full 1080p. We have'nt got in PS3 in Euroupe yet either getting same time you do in March (hopefully if they pull there finger out) and was'nt due to the laser was the chips they had or evan still have a shortage of (for us in Europe and you guys in Aus anyway). And HD-DVD as said buy Stone cold can currently max out at 1080i isn't true as 360 has had update for output up to 1080p for its HD-DVD player. And I know stone cold posted this some time ago but there are now HD-DVDs avalible

wait mayb not europe but japan (or some other place cant quite remember that part) i'd edit but that would just confuse this convo
but i just know it was about the lasers they ran out on the production line and couldn't continue ps3 production until more blu-rays came in

The Consumer will Win
Eventually your local video store ie:blockbuster will have HD-DVD AND BLU-RAY Movies, Wouldn't you want to be able to choose both formats I know i would so LG bringing out a player with both is a good thing.
A proper HD-DVD PLAYER sells in Aust for about $1200 not much cheaper than Blu-ray at $1500.

The LG dual format HD-DVD Blu-ray player got cancelled and may already be in legal trouble as a result.
