Well, I didn't know exactly where this topic fits and it can clutter sites if people ask about it in their own gang threads and such. So I thought - maybe we can share the common knowledge we all have.

This thread is created to ask all those rumours you may have heard and the possible news articles/exerts that others may have read that would benefit all of us.

So here are the rumours I have heard:

1) Sony is pulling out of the games market after the PS3.
-Possible reasons:
.Microsoft putting a bid to buy Rockstar (apparently to stop Sony from getting GTA)
.Apple coming into the gaming arena (as they have recently entered the phone market)
.PSP not doing so well

2) Microsoft putting a bid to buy Rockstar (yes it is a rumour I heard)

So if you have anything that either confirms or denies them - post it here.

After sony thought they had drained every last cent out of GTA, they released the game to MS, and it opened up a whole new world for xbox users, (and rockstar, now not only being tied to sony)Sony would now only release the next GTA game to MS at least 6 months after sony had finished with it. FF a couple of years, and rockstar won't just stay loyal to sony, so perhaps MS is now trying to get their own back, its another nail in sonys self built coffin...

I mean FF although its great on the PS, they gave the crappest one to MS....lol FF11 - well you could also see the flip side: MS had the networking capacity to meet the online demands, whereas Sony couldn't then again - sony had more fans than equipment and to MS users, FF could be a new thing..lol This is confusing.

But with the PSP - Im starting to think, why did I get one! Especially as I was hanging out for the GPS and that is not being released (or is still iffy or whatever)... alot of my friends who got the console when it was first released, have moved on or sold their console. Sony better starts pulling its weight or it will lose even some of its hardcore fans (such as myself..lol)

Thats quite true nbo - why would MS bother about someone, when they are going about killing themselves without any help....

No I don't think their hit. Sony had a change of Executives or something not that long ago and the new guy wants to focus more Televisions and stuff like that and drop the playstation after the PS3 and just focus more on TV's, Projectors, Computers, etc. That sort of stuff.

A comany (such as sony) being around for 10-11 years and only releasing 4 consoles, ps1,ps2,ps3,psp over that period of time, compared to microsoft's two consoles in just the new millenium shows that how technology is advancing and many more improvments are yet to be made so if sony stumbles across somthing that could rapidly improve the games market, im sure thede make another console .

But when the ps3 comes out, the games will just keep getting better and will be harder to superceed so, who knows

I guess, once upper mgmt stops supporting a venture, its pretty hard to get funds even into researching it. But for some reason, the PS3 may either make or break Sony's decision. I hope for my sake that sony continue to stay in the market.
