Yeah, that's true. But I wouldn't want "early discharge due to deterioration in performance" on my resume. I'm using the RAAF as a stepping stone to bigger things. I have a job lined up for a private contractor company working for qantas when I come back, IF i end up going. I highly doubt it now, because Rudd is going to want to pull a ****load of troops back, so they might not bother sending me if I'm not going to be needed for even half of my intended tour duration.

We'll see, ideally I'd like to stay in the RAAF until mid-next year, unless this contractor company wants to make me an offer earlier.

As of 2006, Greece (Hellenic Republic) has mandatory military service of 12 months for men between the ages of 19 and 45. Citizens discharged from active service are normally placed in the Reserve and are subject to periodic recall of 1-10 days at irregular intervals.

So it is still happening, damnit we're lucky in Australia

ps. has Greece even been in a war in the past 1000 years?

Yes, I would have to take someones life. Kill someone who's trying to kill you, and it's one of the most healthy primal experiences.
But my role in the RAAF is only a support role. Life support fitting/maintenance. On my last tour in Iraq a nearby US airbase did see some action, and a few guys that had the same position as me had to defend themselves.

I find no problem in killing someone, I had to once when I was a kid. In the Philippines, when I was about 11, we were holidaying and a guy tried to mug my father in our holiday house. My dad managed to knock the weapon away, but then he got knocked down and the guy pulled out a knife and tried to stab him. I had nothing else to do but get the guy's gun, close my eyes and shoo

You can't join any branch of the defence force and not be willing to pull the trigger when ordered to. Hopefully nothing bad will come, but if it does, I've got the training and mindset to be ready.

And there actually was a delay between the button press and results on the screen. So when they say that the worm jumped before Rudd even said anything, it's not true. The worm didn't react instantly. There was also another delay, the producers tried to delay the responses coming from the politicians to coincide with the audience worm voters, so that it would all line up when it finally hit air.

But pressure was put on channel 9 producers and they misjudged the delay of the worm, so the then 5-10 second-old worm was early when the politician's speech came to air. That's why it seems like Rudd's worm jumps like 10 seconds before he even speaks.

The only thing that worried me was that maybe, just maybe, that man might've been someone else's father, and they were so desperate that it had come to crime like that. But nobody in the town knew him, and back then it was nothing special, because when people get desperate, it's the obvious thing to do: rob people.

I know it was right in the end. Even though my father only lived another 7 years after that, it was the best years of my life.

Also, one day, I'd like to become a General for the RAAF and then be able to fill the pre-requisites to join the elite band of Mypsp Admins.
