Crisis Core - The Prequel to FFVII - 10/10
My Review of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII by jimmiq
I just wanted to be the first to review this awesome game =], I wrote more this time compared to my God Of War review. Also I would like to say that I am a Final Fantasy fanboy, so this influences my thoughts about the game.
Crisis Core follows the life of Zack Fair, a Soldier First Class who inspired Cloud, the main character of Final Fantasy VII. Crisis Core is the prequel to the original game Final Fantasy VII on PS1 which is rated as one of the best games of all time. Crisis Core allows Final Fantasy lovers a chance to learn the history of FFVII while adapting to a new battle system and stunning cinematics. For me this game was perfect!
Gameplay: 9.5/10
The gameplay differs from the original FFVII, in crisis core when you encounter a monster, battle mode is activated. Here you can run around dodge block and attack the monster, its like an action game. I prefer this to the old battle system as its more interactive and you don't have to wait for your turn before attacking. This however can be bad, as you cannot party with other characters, which i thought was kind of sad.
There's lots of materia to equip so you can use a huge load of different skills as well as equip stat bonus materia as well as defensive and offensive skills. Also they're skills like steal, mug and zenny thrower. You can also make and combine your materia through materia fusion, to make stronger ones. For example i created a Materia with +999% hp bonus. The battles can get annoying at times but its still awesome, to avoid them you can run on the sidelines, but why do that! The graphics are the best I've seen so far. The cinematics are to die for, and are sexy although the summon cinematic can be a bit of a pain as they are fairly lengthy and a bit of a waste on small insignificant monsters. Otherwise the gameplay is excellent. I rate it 9.5/10 only 0.5 down cause of the long cinematic on summons although they are awesome they are annoying when trying to kill a quick monster, but they can be skipped if you spam x, the dmw can also be annoying at times against a weak monster. The main problem is the main game story becomes too easy too quickly if you do the missions available, but their is a hard mode.
Zack In combat with a Monster - Its a Screenshot!
Story: 9/10
The story itself, is not that great, but it's quite interesting. It follows the life of Zack Fair and how the Shinra Soldiers (1st Class)are realizing that they are monsters, that they were created through an experiment. Zack then does what he can to help save Shinra and his friend and mentor Angeal, as well as fight Genisis and his Clones. Here we get to see Sepiroth when he was good, which i thought was awesome, but we also see how he became evil. We also see the remake of the scene Last order in the FFVII anime and how Cloud started off.
Story overall not that great as its sort of confusing, but great as it suits the game and allows us to see what happened before the original Final Fantasy VII. As it well suits the game and follows the main plot and surroundings of the Final Fantasy VII series, it deserves a 9/10
Zack Vs Sepiroth, Can you feel the POWER
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics are stunning, absolutely amazing. The cinimatics which i must say are on par with ps2 are awesome and smooth although at times it may be long. You can however pause them but unfortunately can't skip them. My god, when i first picked up this game, i was like HOLY MOLY COW, thats amazing, theses graphics are awesome. They are like God Of War, Although i don't think they are as realistic or so, I would say its on par with GOW. Crisis Core shows some of the best graphics on PSP yet, this is evident in the picture below.
Angeal, Sepiroth, Genesis Sparring, Can You feel the love?
Sound: 9/10
The sound is pretty good, the only thing that kind of annoyed me were the english voices on some of the cinematic, and zack's catch phrases when he kills someone. Also the "Activating Combat Mode" Can be annoying some times, but these are only minor things which i'm picky of. Other than that the sword slashing and the monster killing are fantastic! i love it.
Also the music is great, it well suits the atmosphere and mood.
Zack and Cloud in the Snow.
Replay Value: 10/10
As for Length, The missions make the game last long and give you bonus items, also once you beat the game you can replay keeping your items and your materia and stats. There are 2 modes, normal and hard. Once you beat normal mode you can start again on hard mode, keeping your level and materia and items, although in hard mode monsters can appear 3-5 times stronger. This game will last you over 30 hours at least. 10 hours for main story line and 20-30 hours on missions maybe even more. This is a game where you would want to play all over again, as there are so many things you can do, just amazing. Crisis Core will last you are very long time, if you play well and not rush through the main story, but take your time, do missions, become uber and enjoy the awesomeness that crisis core is.
Zack and Angeal
Conclusion:
Crisis core displays psp's finest graphics in this game which shows the history of the original Final Fantasy VII. This is by far the best game on psp i have played to date, as I love RPGs. If you own a PSP, your a rpg or a FF fan, this game is a must have.
Overall i give this game 9.5/10
This game is great, but no game is perfect and i cannot give it a 10/10. Although it has some minor flaws, it is still an amazing game.
