Cool Pongo, I should clean my Bedroom sometime, I haven't slept in my bedroom in half a year because it ain't one. That and because it's too dirty that my allergies can play up when in there for even a min, (that bad) also my mum puts everything in there that it's like a laundry room.

well i am buying a refurbished computer (im pretty much just going to upgrade it anyway) from recompute.com.au. they give me a few options and im just planning which of these computers i can get for under 700 with a nicely working gaming rig. (i want it to run oblivion without a hitch). so i decided on their PowerPackage IBM M50 (i think)
these are its specs:
HDD: 250gb
RAM: 1gb
CPU: 3.0
19" moniter (my uncles giving me a new one though)

THEN, im getting a 512mb dedicated graphics card put in.
so it seems to me like a pretty good rig. First thing im upgrading though is its case. Ive seen prettier train recks

So is the RAM DDR2 or DDR3? I'm just wondering about that.
But anyway if that's under $700 then that's not bad at all, sounds good if you ask me. Yeah you want 512MB at lease for your graphics card so then if you want to do hardcore gaming or extreme Photoshop-ing you know your Card will handle it.
So what's your uncle giving you then? Your uncle sounds pretty cool if he'll do that for ya!

My suggestion is to get an external HDD so then if anything goes wrong you got a backup, or you install your games on that so you can take it anywhere. You can get a external 1 terabyte *1,000 Gigs for people who don't know* for under $200.

And the other part of my suggestion is to get the case last. Cause that's more of a accessories item then a needed part, Plus it gives you more time to look around. And gives you the chance to know what sort of case you need.

you make a damn fine fence my friend.
Its DDR2 RAM, it has 4 ports inside, i don't know what its expandable too, i will find out when i pick it up, im not really fussed either.
My uncle knows a guy who knows a guy...
External HDD... i thought about it. I have a spare HDD at home that i plug into a device of sorts every now and again and back up all the important files. Im not really into photo shopping. But now i will be storing alot more on my new HDD, so yeah a External may be what i need. I dunno.
The case: I don't know when i will fall into work again, so for now, i want something that makes me feel like i'm driving a tank rather than a blue prius

you can't judge a graphics card by just how much ram it has in it .

a GFX could have 1gb DDR3 ram but have some slow single core GPU ...

4 RAM ports are nice to have for a backup maybe. I got four ports for it but I only use 2 because there both 2GIG DDR2 so I don't really need anything over 4gig.
Question which Graphics card Company would you go to: Nvidia or ATI Radeon?
I go Nvidia because I had a Radeon one time and it never work for my games

A blue Prius? I wonder if you got that from Achmed the dead terrorist? Anyway I know a couple of good shops with some awesome cases, and they are see-through with LED lights! Problem for you is that their Brisbane shops
