Welcome to the uber-easy guide to install Custom Themes, onto your PSP with official firmware.
Before we start, we need to get hold of a couple of things, You'll need:
- PSP
- USB cable, or Memory Stick reader (compatible with PSP Memory Stick)
- Theme files - Themes can be downloaded from the excellant MyPSP.com.au's Theme Site
- A bit of patience, and general non-n00bishness
Step One: Download and extract the theme(s) you want to put on your PSP. Themes can be downloaded from
Here. Extract the Themes as neccessary, so you've got hold of the files that end in .PTF
Step Two: Connect your PSP's Memory Stick to the computer. This can be done in one of 2 ways:
Method A: Using a USB cable, plug the 'Type A' (the bigger) end, into the computer, and the smaller end into the top of the PSP. Allow time for your Computer to recognise the PSP.
Method B: Remove the Memory stick from the left hand side of your PSP, and fit into a compatible memory card reader. Allow the computer to detect the device is connected.
Step Three: Go to the ROOT of your memory card, usually it's in My Computer, labelled as "Removable Device" or something similar. Navigate to the following path on your memory card, if you need to create folders, do so but observe capitalisation of folder names.
X:\PSP\THEME\
Where X is the letter assinged to your PSP
Now minimize that window, and navigate to where the Theme files are. If neccessary, you should extract these files using any compatable software (I use 7zip). You should now see a file with a resemblence to the theme name, and ending in .PTF There will be one for each theme you want to install.
Step Four: All that needs to be done now is to copy the files to your PSP :)
Restore both windows so that they are side by side, drag and drop the .PTF files into the THEME folder on the PSP's Memory stick. If you have a large amount of themes to copy this can take a while. Make a cup of Tea :)
Step Five: Once all the files have finished copying, pick up your PSP, press CIRCLE to come out of the USB mode.
Press DOWN four times to go to the 'Theme Settings' menu, and then X, select 'Theme'.
You can now scroll down and look through your themes, select one to your liking, all your themes will stay on your memory card until you delete them, you can only have 1 theme installed at a time.
